Abigail is a thrilling and bloody ride from start to finish.

“Abigail” will be a thrilling rollercoaster for horror enthusiasts. It offers a fresh spin on the vampire genre. Directed by the powerhouse duo Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett, known for their work on the “Scream” series, this film delivers on its promise of blood, terror, and entertainment. At its core, “Abigail” presents a captivating group dynamic reminiscent of “Reservoir Dogs,” with the late Angus Cloud delivering a standout performance. While the blood and gore are undeniably wild, leaving audiences craving more, what we do get is nothing short of mind-blowing.
Alisha Weir, known for her role in “Matilda,” steals the show as the pint-sized vampire wreaking havoc, while Kathryn Newton and Angus Cloud share great chemistry on screen. Dan Stevens surprises with his portrayal of Frank, showcasing a side of the actor we haven’t seen before. Melissa Barrera shines as the lead, further solidifying her star power in the industry. As the story unfolds in an isolated mansion where a group of kidnappers must contend with a not-so-normal little girl, tension mounts, and the stakes skyrocket. With a stellar cast that includes the likes of Will Catlett, Kevin Durand, and Giancarlo Esposito, “Abigail” keeps viewers on the edge of their seats from start to finish.
This film has a good chunk of dark humor. It also introduces some new vampire lore while debunking some of the common weaknesses associated with vampires. Bettinelli-Olpin and Gillett’s direction, along with the clever writing by Stephen Shields and Guy Busick, creates an entertaining and gory cinematic experience. Abigail does a great job balancing multiple elements and creating something never seen before with the help of an electrifying ensemble.
Verdict
I give Abigail 4 out of 5 stars. While some may crave a bit more substance, the film delivers where it counts, offering a fresh take on the vampire mythos that will leave audiences hungry for more. Whether you’re a die-hard horror fan or simply looking for a thrilling ride, “Abigail” is a must-see.
