Lance Reddick Final ‘John Wick’ Universe Performance in ‘Ballerina’

John Wick spin-off ‘Ballerina’ gets an extended look at CCXP.

Fans of the John Wick universe were treated to an extended preview of the upcoming spin-off Ballerina during CCXP (Comic-Con Experience). The anticipation is at an all-time high. Len Wiseman directs the film. It is set for release on June 6, 2025. Ana de Armas stars as Eve Macarro. She is a Ruska Roma assassin-in-training navigating the perilous world of contract killers.

The story unfolds during the events of John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum. It promises to deepen the lore of the franchise’s richly textured universe. As producer Chad Stahelski remarked during the presentation, “One of the fascinating things in the franchise to me is the world creation. Ballerina gave us a chance to explore that world.”

A Fresh Take on the ‘John Wick’ Universe

Wiseman emphasized that Ballerina is more than a female iteration of John Wick. “This was not a female John Wick,” he explained. “This was a story about Eve coming into it from the beginning.” The film explores Eve’s journey as she undergoes rigorous training within the traditions of the Ruska Roma, the assassin syndicate that audiences glimpsed in Chapter 3.

Ana de Armas, who leads the cast alongside franchise veterans Ian McShane and Keanu Reeves, spoke candidly about the demanding preparation for the role. “The way that the fights are built, you have to be prepared for whatever they throw at you,” she said. “It was a kind of discipline, physical and mental, that I didn’t know before.”

The action sequences in Ballerina are said to raise the stakes even higher, with de Armas recalling a particularly intense flamethrower scene. “This is insane,” she joked. “I think I’ve burned 106 people. I only cried with the first man. The other 105 I was fine.”

The film boasts an impressive ensemble.

It including Anjelica Huston reprising her role as the Director of the Ruska Roma and Lance Reddick in one of his final performances as Charon. Gabriel Byrne, Catalina Sandino Moreno, and Norman Reedus round out the cast, bringing fresh faces to the John Wick universe.

According to Reddick, the script struck a perfect balance between expanding the mythology and maintaining its signature style. “When I read the script, I didn’t think you could find a way to expand the world in a way that felt completely different and at the same time completely connected,” he said. “The overall goal was to give John Wick action,” Stahelski added. “When you’re watching it with an audience and the place goes nuts, that’s a great experience.”

Ballerina is shaping up to be a worthy addition to the John Wick saga, combining intricate choreography, intense performances, and the deep lore fans have come to love. As de Armas puts it, “It’s a really high bar. You have to bring your A-game.”

Mark your calendars for June 6, 2025—Ballerina promises to deliver action, drama, and a fresh perspective on the assassin underworld.
