The Killer’s Game Has Dave Bautista Delivering Brutal Action – Movie Review

The Killer’s Game is a bonkers action comedy.

In The Killer’s Game, Dave Bautista once again proves he is a versatile action star, seamlessly blending humor, heart, and an imposing physical presence. In this action-packed and hilarious flick, Bautista plays Joe Flood, a top hitman diagnosed with a terminal illness. Instead of waiting for the end, he hires assassins to take him out. But when his ex-girlfriend (played by Sofia Boutella) gets caught in the crossfire, he has to fend off waves of hitmen while trying to rekindle their romance.

Bautista truly crushes it in this role. His comedic timing and his natural ability to pull off over-the-top action scenes make him a joy to watch. Honestly, I can watch Bautista in anything, and this film is no exception. However, patience will be tested, as the plot takes a while to kick into gear. Once it does, the movie goes full throttle with fun, chaotic energy and bonkers action sequences. The kills are creatively over-the-top, adding a level of absurdity that keeps the audience entertained throughout.

Ben Kingsley is always awesome to see.

He brings a serious vibe to the movie, but sometimes the script feels kind of cheesy. The movie tries to be like a Guy Ritchie film, but it doesn’t always hit the mark with that clever, witty style. The chemistry between Bautista and Boutella is a highlight. Their dynamic on screen is electric, and after watching this movie, I wouldn’t mind seeing Boutella take on a role like Talia al Ghul in the next Batman movie. On the flip side, while I’m a fan of Pom Klementieff’s work in Guardians of the Galaxy and Mission Impossible, her role here feels miscast. Her performance is too comical for the film, making it difficult to take her character seriously, even though the movie intentionally embraces a light-hearted tone. Terry Crew

Verdict

I give The Killer’s Game 3.5 out of 5 stars. It is a fun, action-filled romp with plenty of laughs. While it doesn’t reinvent the genre and sometimes leans too hard on cheese, it’s worth the watch if you’re a fan of Bautista’s charisma and love seeing creative kills unfold on screen.

Rating: 3.5 out of 5.
