The It Girls of Fear Street talk killer prom fashion and who would survive the night.

The queens of Shadyside High have arrived! Fear Street: Prom Queen hits Netflix on May 23rd, and I had the chance to sit down with three of the film’s standout stars—Ariana Greenblatt, Rebecca Ablack, and Ella Rubin—to talk all things prom, blood, fashion, and fear.
As someone who loves horror but is a total scaredy cat, I was both freaked out and fully entertained by this gory and wild return to R.L. Stine’s sinister world of Fear Street. And the night before our interview? The cast got to live their best ’80s prom dreams, shoulder pads and all.
’80s Fashion Inspo? Big Hair, Shoulder Pads, and Chanel, Baby
When asked if they had drawn any inspiration from vintage fashion for their prom looks, Rebecca Ablack didn’t hesitate to answer.
“My favorite thing about the ’80s is the shoulder pads,” she said. “I raided my mom’s closet. Everything from the ’80s has shoulder pads, and I went big with them. Mission accomplished.”

Ariana Greenblatt brought runway energy to prom night:
“I wore a Chanel dress from the ’80s that Claudia Schiffer once wore. My stylist and I saw it and instantly loved it. We paired it with a curly blowout and a side part, just fun and retro. And I was listening to New Order, so that helped me get into the vibe.”
On the other hand, Ella Rubin admitted she didn’t totally lean into the decade—but her castmates say otherwise.
“I was gonna go ’80s, but then I just… didn’t,” she laughed. “Though I guess my hair kind of worked. Big hair counts, right?”
Rebecca chimed in, “Your hair was totally ’80s. And you’re a timeless beauty, so it works no matter what!”

Ella also shared a behind-the-scenes tidbit about her prom dress from the film:
“By the end of shooting, I loved the look, but that sequin dress gave me a serious rash. I was ready to retire it by the final scene!”
Who’s Dying First and Who’s Your Ride-or-Die?
The kills in Fear Street: Prom Queen are intense—trust me, no one is safe. So naturally, I had to ask: if you were trapped in Shadyside High on prom night, who from the cast are you teaming up with to survive? And who’s not making it?
Everyone instantly agreed:
“David is getting killed first,” Ariana said with a grin. “He’d be cracking jokes and trying to be everyone’s friend. That’s how you get got!”
When it came to survival squads, the answers showed a lot of love for the cast of Fear Street:
Rebecca said, “I’d team up with India. She’s our heroine. She’s got final girl energy.”
Ariana chose Suzanna, praising her intelligence and calm demeanor: “She wouldn’t panic. She’d be cool under pressure.”
Ella gave her survival vote to Ilan: “If I’m going to die, I want to look at India in my final moments.”

Fear Street: Prom Street Is A New Chapter in a Bloody Legacy
Directed by Matt Palmer, Fear Street: Prom Queen brings the slasher franchise back in full, bloody force. Set in 1988, it centers around a prom night from hell, where a group of fierce It Girls find themselves being picked off one by one after an outsider throws her name in the crown race.
It’s gory, it’s glam, and it’s got that signature Fear Street mix of teen drama and slasher chaos. This latest installment stars India Fowler, Suzanna Son, Fina Strazza, Chris Klein, David Iacono, Ella Rubin, Ariana Greenblatt, Rebecca Ablack, Lily Taylor, and Katherine Waterson.
So if you’re ready for blood, betrayal, and big hair, Fear Street: Prom Queen is your perfect horror prom date. Just don’t forget to check the exits… you never know who’s next.
