Fear Street: Prom Queen is now streaming on Netflix.

Shadyside is back in bloody form with Fear Street: Prom Queen, the latest Netflix slasher that transports audiences to a killer prom night in 1988. Featuring a mysterious string of disappearances, over-the-top fashion, and gallons of gore, this new installment in the Fear Street saga delivers a stylish, nostalgic horror experience.
I spoke with stars Suzanna Son and David Iacono, who play key roles in the bloody high school showdown. The duo opened up about embracing the retro vibes, drawing inspiration from iconic 1980s fashion, and just how messy filming got behind the scenes.
Going Full 1980s
Both actors leaned hard into the era’s aesthetics—on and off set. “I tried to do an homage to the ’80s hair with lots of hairspray,” Son said. “I just kind of went for it in a hair and makeup way—and that was so fun.”
Iacono also got into the spirit with help from his stylist. “My suit felt like it was pretty dated in a wonderful way,” he said. “Thank you, Benjamin—my stylist—he’s the best, and I love him.”
Finding Inspiration in Horror and Punk Rock
To tap into the slasher tone of the film, Iacono turned to a horror staple. “I watched some of the Halloween stuff—the original Michael Myers movies—because I love them very much,” he shared. “It didn’t even really feel like preparation. I just enjoy these movies, so why not throw them on?”

Son’s approach was more personal, drawing influence from pop culture and her family. “I love a little ’80s music. I also took some inspo from Joan Jett and my mother,” she said. “My mom was very punk in the ’80s. I have a bracelet from her that I would wear. It didn’t make its way on set, but it’s little things like that.”
Buckets of Blood and Sticky Situations
It wouldn’t be Fear Street without a serious amount of gore, and the cast confirmed just how intense those blood-soaked scenes were.
“The sheer amount of blood… you need, like, 10 T-shirts to change into,” Son revealed. “There’s so much blood. You have to keep reminding yourself it’s probably corn syrup.”

“Yeah,” Iacono added. “Starch or whatever else is in there—it gets sticky, fast.”
Despite the mess, both agreed the experience helped them become invested in their characters and the film’s over-the-top slasher style.
The Final Three Words
When asked to describe Fear Street: Prom Queen in just three words, the two actors had no trouble summing it up. “Punk,” said Son. “Camp,” added Iacono. They both agreed on one more: “Killer.”
Fear Street: Prom Queen is now streaming on Netflix. Set in the neon-lit chaos of 1988, this bloody prom night isn’t one you’ll want to miss—just don’t show up without a corsage… or an escape plan.
