Final Destination: Bloodlines is a Terrifying Return That Will Mess With Your Head – Review

I am not okay — and that’s exactly why Final Destination: Bloodlines works so well.

Final Destination: Bloodlines messed me up in all the ways this franchise is known for—and I mean that as a compliment. I honestly tapped out of these movies after the third one. Not because they weren’t good but because my anxiety said, “Nope, we’re not doing this anymore.” And yet, here I am, getting roped right back into Death’s sick little game years later. And wow… what a return.

This one grabs you by the nerves from the start and doesn’t let go. Watching it in IMAX felt like a full-on assault—in the best possible way. Every creak, every flicker, every random object in the background had me on edge. My eyes were practically glued to my hands because I knew something awful would happen.

What makes Bloodlines hit differently is how it leans into the suspense and unpredictability. That Sherlock Holmes-style approach to figuring out Death’s pattern was clever and added a fun new layer. The constant fake-outs had me second-guessing everything, and just when I’d relax, boom—pure carnage. The kills? They are not the most out-there in the franchise, but they mimic real-world possibilities, making them way more disturbing. A few were straight-up jaw-dropping.

The film dips a little into cheesier territory than the earlier entries. But honestly? It works. When they hit, the laughs were well-placed and gave much-needed breathers between all the tension. That balance made this entry feel fresh while still honoring the legacy of what came before.

And speaking of legacy seeing my friend, the late Tony Todd, on-screen one last time. His presence gave me full-body goosebumps. What a powerful and emotional sendoff for such an iconic figure in the franchise.

Verdict

If you’re a longtime fan — or even if you tapped out like I did — Final Destination: Bloodlines is a wild, nerve-wracking ride that proves this franchise still has plenty of life — and death — left in it. It’s smarter, scarier, and more self-aware than I expected. Don’t be surprised if you leave the theater, second-guessing every step you take.

Rating: 4 out of 5.

FINAL DESTINATION: BLOODLINES hits theaters on Friday, May 16. See it with a crowd, clutch your seat, and maybe… take the long way home.
