Celebrate Friday the 13th with Jason’s Most Fun Films

Look at Friday the 13th’s Jason’s wildest and most fun films.

As the infamous slasher icon Jason Voorhees returns to the spotlight on this Friday the 13th, it’s the perfect time to revisit some of his most wildly fun and outlandish films. While the Friday the 13th franchise is known for its mix of horror and mayhem, a few standout films took Jason to unexpected and entertaining places. Let’s spotlight three of the most fun Jason Voorhees adventures.

Friday the 13th Part VIII: Jason Takes Manhattan (1989)
Jason leaves the familiar setting of Camp Crystal Lake and heads to the Big Apple in Friday the 13th Part VIII: Jason Takes Manhattan. The story follows Jason as he stalks a group of high school graduates aboard a cruise ship, ultimately terrorizing them in the streets of Manhattan. Directed by Rob Hedden, the film features Kane Hodder as Jason, who delivers some of the most memorable kills in the franchise. Although the title suggests more time in New York, the majority of the film takes place on the boat. A fun fact is that budget constraints led to limited filming in Manhattan, but the Times Square scenes are iconic nonetheless.

Jason X (2001)

What’s more fun than sending a horror icon into space? Jason X takes the slasher genre into the 25th century. Once again, played by Kane Hodder, Jason Voorhees is cryogenically frozen and reawakened aboard a spaceship. This futuristic installment is directed by James Isaac, filled with campy fun and over-the-top action. Fans particularly enjoy the scene where Jason is tricked into a virtual reality simulation of Camp Crystal Lake, where he delivers a hilarious callback to his past victims. While Jason X wasn’t a box-office success, it’s gained a cult following for embracing the absurdity of the franchise.

Freddy vs. Jason (2003)
The long-awaited showdown between two horror icons, Freddy Krueger and Jason Voorhees, finally arrived with Freddy vs. Jason. This film, directed by Ronny Yu, pits Jason (Ken Kirzinger) against Freddy Krueger (Robert Englund) in a battle for dominance. The story centers on Freddy using Jason to instill fear, allowing him to return to power. With its blend of gory action, dark humor, and epic fight scenes, Freddy vs. Jason became a fan favorite. Fun fact: This film marked the last time Englund portrayed Freddy Krueger on screen.

As we celebrate this Friday the 13th, these films remind us why Jason Voorhees remains a horror legend.
