Good Boy Trailer Unleashes a Haunted Canine Horror

Good Boy brings a four-legged hero to theaters this October.

Opening in theaters on October 3, Good Boy blends haunted house horror with man’s best friend at its center. Directed by Ben Leonberg and produced by Leonberg and Kari Fischer, the film introduces audiences to Indy, their beloved dog, who has become a movie star.

A Haunted Homecoming

The film follows Indy, a loyal 35-pound retriever, who embarks on a chilling adventure alongside his human best friend, Todd. When the pair moves from the city into a long-vacant family home in the country, Indy quickly senses that something isn’t right. Haunted corners, invisible presences, warnings from a ghostly canine, and visions of past tragedy soon confirm his suspicions.

As Todd becomes entangled in the sinister forces surrounding the house, it’s up to Indy to fight against the malevolent spirit threatening to drag his friend into the afterlife.

Indy may be unaware of his movie star status, but his natural charm steals the spotlight. Known for his love of fetch, food, and his humans, Ben and Kari, Indy brings heart and authenticity to the screen. His breakout role in the short film “Good Boy” paved the way for his feature debut.

About the Director

Leonberg, whose filmmaking style merges handcrafted effects with imaginative storytelling, makes his feature directorial debut with Good Boy. A Columbia University MFA graduate in directing, Leonberg taught at the school for over five years before joining Montana State University’s undergraduate film program. His background includes narrative, commercial, and VR production, often relying on creative problem-solving to deliver ambitious projects.

During production, the Good Boy screenplay earned a spot on the Columbia Blue List. It became a finalist in the ScreenCraft Film Fund, and secured Leonberg a 2023 Fellowship from the New Jersey State Council on the Arts.

Cast and Crew

Alongside Indy, the cast includes Shane Jensen, Arielle Friedman, and genre veteran Larry Fessenden. Alex Cannon and Leonberg co-wrote the screenplay.

With its mix of supernatural thrills, heartfelt storytelling, and a canine hero at its core, Good Boy promises to deliver a fresh take on the haunted house genre when it hits theaters this fall.
