Oscar Isaac, Jacob Elordi, and Mia Goth Lead Netflix’s dark reimagining of Frankenstein.

Netflix has dropped the first trailer for Guillermo del Toro’s long-awaited adaptation of Frankenstein. The Oscar-winning filmmaker, known for The Shape of Water and Pan’s Labyrinth, brings Mary Shelley’s Gothic masterpiece to life in a chilling new vision that he has been developing for more than a decade.
Cast and Creative Team
Del Toro serves as director and screenwriter, adapting Shelley’s 1818 novel Frankenstein; or, The Modern Prometheus. The film is produced by del Toro, J. Miles Dale, and Scott Stuber.

The cast features a powerhouse lineup, including Oscar Isaac, Jacob Elordi, Mia Goth, Felix Kammerer, David Bradley, Lars Mikkelsen, Christian Convery, Charles Dance, and Christoph Waltz.
Story and Themes
The film follows Victor Frankenstein (Isaac), a brilliant but self-absorbed scientist whose experiment to create life results in a tragic creature, played by Elordi. The story explores obsession, morality, and the destructive consequences of unchecked ambition.

According to Tudum, del Toro has long cited Shelley’s novel as a creative inspiration. During his 2018 BAFTA acceptance speech for The Shape of Water, he even thanked the young Gothic novelist, who wrote the book at just 19.
Release Plans
Frankenstein will open in select theaters on October 17 before making its global streaming debut on Netflix on November 7. Add it to your watchlist.
