Set in the 1950s, the story introduces us to rookie Bureau for Paranormal Research and Defense (BPRD) agent Bobbie Jo Song, played by Adeline Rudolph. Tasked with delivering a mysterious spider to the BPRD, Bobbie Jo’s mission takes a perilous turn, forcing her to seek the help of the iconic Hellboy. Jack Kesy steps into the role of Hellboy, a character beloved by fans for his gruff demeanor and heroic spirit. Together, they venture into the foreboding Appalachian wilderness to confront the sinister Crooked Man, portrayed by Martin Bassindale.
The Crooked Man is portrayed by Martin Bassindale.
He has been sent back to Earth to collect souls for the devil. The film’s screenplay is penned by Hellboy’s original creator, Mike Mignola, alongside Christopher Golden. This should ensure that the story remains true to its comic book roots. Rounding out the cast are Jefferson White as Tom Ferrel, Leah McNamara as Effie Kolb, Joseph Marcell as Reverend Watts, and Hannah Margetson as Cora Fisher.
Hellboy: The Crooked Man marks another chapter in the Hellboy film series. It follows the original 2004 “Hellboy” directed by Guillermo del Toro and its 2008 sequel “Hellboy II: The Golden Army.” Starring Ron Perlman in the titular role, these films set a high bar for dark fantasy and action. In 2019, a reboot titled “Hellboy” was released. It featured David Harbour as the titular character, though it received mixed reviews from critics and fans.
Distributed in the United States by Ketchup Entertainment, Hellboy: The Crooked Man aims to revive interest in the franchise with its fresh take and compelling narrative. The film will explore survival in the face of death and Taylor’s unique directorial style. It will release later in 2024.
