Mikey Brown’s 1957 BMW Isetta “RV” wins at Hot Wheels Legends Tour in Houston.

HOUSTON—The ninth U.S. stop of the 2024 Hot Wheels Legends Tour made its way to Houston on September 14. Car enthusiasts gathered at Walmart in Tomball, right outside Houston, to witness the next potential Hot Wheels die-cast model. The event drew over 6,000 fans, with over 110 custom cars competing for the top spot. This marks the fifth time I served as a judge for the tour.

Judges also included Annie Elizabeth, Anthony Sanchez, Imran Ahmed, Jerry Dellaportes, Jerry Wayne Longmire, Joel Tarver, Justin Smith, Nathan Malinick, Bryan Benedict, and Kevin Geraldez. The panel had the challenging task of selecting a winner based on authenticity, creativity, and garage spirit.

The coveted title of the Houston stop went to Mikey Brown and his 1957 BMW Isetta “RV.”
Brown’s unique creation stood out for its creativity and attention to detail. His inspiration came from the larger-than-life recreational vehicles seen across American campsites. Brown started with nothing but a few pieces of scrap metal, including a front door and a section of the roof. Over 80 days, working entirely on his own, Brown transformed his Isetta into a functional camper equipped with a Walmart crate motor. The vehicle, lovingly dubbed a “Redemption Vehicle,” has become a symbol of Brown’s ingenuity and determination.

Judges were particularly impressed with the blend of craftsmanship and heart that went into the build. From engineering and bodywork to paint, upholstery, and assembly, Brown managed every aspect of the project himself. His dedication paid off as the judges saw his creation as a prime example of the garage spirit that the Hot Wheels Legends Tour celebrates.

The Houston event is part of a larger global competition in which custom car builders compete to turn their dream projects into the next Hot Wheels die-cast model. Brown’s Isetta will now advance to the global semifinals later this year. He will be competing for the opportunity to join the Hot Wheels family. The 2024 Hot Wheels Legends Tour continues its journey, seeking more inventive builds that showcase creativity and a deep-rooted passion for car culture. Learn More Here.
