Juliette Lewis and Peter Dinklage Bring Grit and Power to The Thicket

In The Thicket, Peter Dinklage stars as Reginald Jones. He is a fierce bounty hunter. A desperate man recruits him to track down the elusive and ruthless Cut Throat Bill, played by Juliette Lewis. This Western thriller unfolds against a backdrop of harsh landscapes and dangerous encounters, making it a riveting tale of vengeance and justice. The film is based on Joe R. Lansdale’s novel and features a stellar supporting cast, including Esmé Creed-Miles, Levon Hawke, Macon Blair, and Leslie Grace.
During my conversation with Dinklage and Lewis, it was evident how deeply they connected with their characters. Dinklage’s journey of bringing started a decade ago when he first read Lansdale’s book. Watch my conversation with them below as we discuss how the harsh landscapes and rugged environment help them get into character.
Dinklage, known for his roles in Elf, X-Men: Days of Future Past, and Game of Thrones, also starred in the remake of The Toxic Avenger. His standout performance in The Thicket brings an intensity to Jones. His character’s determination to track down Cut Throat Bill is matched only by the unexpected camaraderie he builds with a motley crew of heroes, including a grave-digging ex-slave and a street-smart woman-for-hire. Juliette Lewis, meanwhile, delves into a character that feels worlds apart from her previous roles. Best known for her performance in Natural Born Killers and National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation, Lewis transforms into the ruthless Cut Throat Bill, a character who is as visually striking as she is internally complex.
The film’s incredible Western visuals are a character in themselves.
The breathtaking landscapes and meticulous costume design transport viewers back in time, making the world of The Thicket feel authentic and immersive. As Dinklage and Lewis emphasized, the rawness of the setting was key to bringing their characters to life. The Thicket stands out as one of the best modern Westerns in recent memory. Its combination of stunning visuals, strong performances, and a gripping storyline makes it a must-watch. Stay tuned for more interviews from the cast, including Levon Hawke, Leslie Grace, Gbenga Akinnagbe, and director Elliott Lester. Catch The Thicket in theaters starting September 6th.
