London Calling is a throwback team-up that works.

Director Allan Ungar continues to prove he knows how to deliver movies that are both stylish and highly entertaining. Many fans like myself first discovered Ungar through his viral Uncharted live-action fan film, starring Nathan Fillion. It was a gift to longtime Uncharted fans that perfectly captured the spirit of the games. Before that, Ungar showed off his action chops with Tapped Out (2014) and Gridlocked (2015).

My introduction to Ungar’s feature work came with Bandit. It was a biographical crime drama that instantly impressed me with its slick pacing and heart. It also starred one of my favorites, Josh Duhamel. As a longtime Las Vegas fan, the news that Ungar and Duhamel were teaming up again for London Calling was all I needed to hear, and they absolutely delivered.
A Mix of Action, Comedy, and Heart
London Calling is a solid follow-up from the director and star. This film brings back that blend of action and humor we rarely see anymore. It’s fast-paced, funny, and surprisingly full of emotion. Duhamel gives one of his most charismatic performances in years. Once again, he reminds us why he’s such a reliable and likable leading man.
The story follows a down-on-his-luck hitman who, after a job gone wrong in the UK, is forced to look after the son of his new crime boss and teach him “how to become a man.” What unfolds is a series of action-packed, heartfelt, and often hilarious moments as the unlikely pair form a genuine bond.

Duhamel’s chemistry with Jeremy Ray Taylor (IT) is one of the film’s biggest highlights. Their dynamic gives the story a buddy-movie charm that feels both nostalgic and fresh. And with Suits standout Rick Hoffman in the mix, you’ve got another entertaining performance to look forward to.
Duhamel’s Ongoing Hot Streak
Best known for starring in the Transformers franchise and the recent rom-com Shotgun Wedding opposite Jennifer Lopez, Josh Duhamel has kept his momentum going with a variety of roles. He was recently seen in Disney+’s The Mighty Ducks: Game Changers and can be seen in the Netflix series Ransom Canyon. With London Calling, Duhamel once again proves that his mix of humor, heart, and heroics can anchor just about any genre.
Expect Some LARPing
One of the movie’s most unexpected and entertaining twists comes from its use of LARPing — Live Action Role-Playing — which becomes part of the film’s charm. For those unfamiliar, LARPing involves players acting out characters in real-world scenarios, often inspired by fantasy or historical adventures. It’s a creative touch that adds a layer of fun and originality to an already engaging story.
Verdict
Allan Ungar and Josh Duhamel have recaptured that classic action-comedy energy, delivering a film that’s as heartfelt as it is exciting. London Calling feels like a throwback to the kinds of crowd-pleasing, character-driven action flicks we don’t get enough of anymore.

Ungar directs with confidence, and Duhamel’s effortless screen presence keeps the film engaging from start to finish. With humor, heart, and solid action, London Calling hits all the right notes — and leaves the door wide open for a sequel audiences will absolutely want.
