A definitive box set for the visionary French filmmaker, Luc Besson.

Sony Pictures Home Entertainment has announced The Luc Besson 9-Movie Collection (1983–2005). It is a limited edition gift set bringing together nine films from the acclaimed French director. The collection will be available on November 11. It includes high-definition Blu-ray presentations of all nine titles, with six also newly remastered in 4K Ultra HD.
The set covers more than two decades of Besson’s career, from his stark, wordless debut Le Dernier Combat to the romantic fantasy Angel-A. Fans will receive a coffee table-worthy collector’s box. It is designed to showcase the discs along with hours of special features, documentaries, cast and crew interviews, and behind-the-scenes looks.

Several of the films, including Subway and The Big Blue, are presented with extensive making-of documentaries and over 100 minutes of interviews. Both theatrical and extended cuts of The Big Blue, Léon: The Professional, and The Messenger are included in 4K with Dolby Vision. The Fifth Element returns with its stylized sci-fi visuals newly optimized for Dolby Atmos.
Special Features and Restorations
Highlights include a 95-minute documentary on The Big Blue, a retrospective on Léon: The Professional, and the 88-minute “In the Footsteps of Joan” documentary for The Messenger. La Femme Nikita and Subway also feature lengthy interview sessions with cast members and technical crews.
For the first time, several of these films make their high-definition disc debut in North America. The new 4K restorations were sourced from Gaumont’s archives.

It’s ironic that “The Messenger” comes with a video called “The Search for the Real Joan of Arc” since the movie was so erroneous (on almost every important point) that some historians told their students not to watch it.
