Marvel Honors Avengers #800 with Giant-Size Issue and Legendary Creators

Jed MacKay leads Marvel’s 800th Avengers issue into an epic finale.

Marvel Comics will ring in 2025 with a major milestone for Earth’s Mightiest Heroes. Avengers #34 — officially marking the 800th issue of the legendary ongoing series — hits comic shop shelves this January.

A Giant-Sized Celebration

The oversized issue comes from the current creative team of writer Jed MacKay and artist Farid Karami, whose run has delivered some of the most ambitious Avengers storytelling in years. To mark the milestone, Marvel is assembling a lineup of iconic creators from Avengers’ history to contribute all-new backup stories that celebrate the team’s past, present, and future.

MacKay teased that this issue represents a defining moment for his current arc, saying, “AVENGERS #800 is a milestone for both the title and our story, as we enter the grand finale of the story we’ve been telling for the last few years! It’s been fantastic to be a part of such a big anniversary issue, and to have contributed to the history of the Avengers!

Myrddin’s Endgame

The issue promises to deliver massive revelations as Myrddin’s Endgame unfolds. The long-building conflict between Kang and Myrddin reaches its breaking point, with the Avengers facing their greatest challenge yet. With Kang standing on the brink of creating a new universe, the team must unite to stop him in what’s described as a “final challenge they’ve been bracing themselves for.”

A Legendary Connecting Cover

To honor this historic moment, fan-favorite artist Russell Dauterman has designed a stunning wraparound cover that features Avengers from across every era. The image will span three issues, culminating in Avengers #36 in March.

“I jumped at the chance to draw these covers — I’m honored to be involved with this Marvel milestone!” Dauterman said. “Editor Wil Moss referenced Jim Lee’s X-Men team lineups as inspiration — I ran with that, looking to the awesome 1992 trading cards and also to the art of George Pérez. I love the Avengers team pieces that George did over the years, and was excited for the opportunity to do my own.”

What’s Next for the Avengers

With decades of history behind them, the Avengers continue to evolve for a new generation of readers. Avengers #800 promises both a heartfelt tribute to the team’s legacy and a thrilling step toward its future.

Fans can preorder Avengers #34 (Legacy #800) now at their local comic shops and stay tuned for more news about the surprise returning creators contributing to this milestone celebration.
