Mo Amer brings Mo Season 2 premiere home to Houston.

The highly anticipated world premiere of Mo Season 2 took center stage at the historic River Oaks Theatre on Monday night as a full house of fans, local celebrities such as Jeff Bagwell and Adrian Peterson, and friends of creator and star Mo Amer gathered to celebrate the return of the acclaimed Netflix series.
Set and filmed in Houston, Mo has been lauded for its raw humor and heartfelt storytelling, capturing the immigrant experience through Amer’s semi-autobiographical lens. The premiere event was a homecoming for the Palestinian-American comedian, who first found his comedic voice in the city and has since risen to international fame.

“It’s really special, man,” Amer said on the red carpet. “I’m just a little Palestinian boy from Alief who made something of himself, and to bring it back home like this is beautiful. Houston is a huge part of my story—my friends, my family, my culture—so to do this here, in this historic venue, makes it all the more meaningful.”
Amer reflected on the deep personal connection he has with the show, especially as a new father. “I have a boy now, and even though he’s just a year old and doesn’t totally know what’s going on, this is something he can look at one day,” he said. “This show memorializes my family’s village back home and showcases Houston in a way that I’ve always wanted. It’s a big tribute, and I feel all kinds of emotions about it.”
The night’s biggest surprise came when legendary comedian Dave Chappelle.
He made an unannounced appearance to support Amer, his longtime friend and touring opener. Chappelle’s presence added an extra layer of prestige to an already star-studded evening, with Houston rap legend Bun B and Mo cast members gracing the red carpet.
“It’s been so amazing to watch homegrown talent like Mo Amer rise to this level of success,” said Bun B. “This show is incredibly well-written, well-acted, and well-crafted. What makes it even more special is that it’s an original H-Town story that actually takes place in H-Town and was shot here. That’s a rare thing.”

The audience was treated to the first two episodes of the new season, which seamlessly blended Amer’s signature humor with deeper themes of identity, resilience, and belonging.

Actress Lee Eddy, who reprises her role in Season 2, spoke about the show’s evolution. “It’s definitely elevated story-wise, but at its core, it remains a heartfelt, close-family story,” she said. “We have such an incredible cast and crew. It’s the same people that brought us the first season, and it’s just so nice to be around people who know what they’re doing and do it well.”
Eddy also praised Amer’s relentless work ethic.
“Mo is always working. Even between takes, he’s figuring out what’s next,” she said. “If we’re waiting on a shot, he’s on the phone working out a new bit or organizing something big. He makes things happen, and it’s so inspiring to watch.”
Actress Farah Bsieso echoed the sentiment, emphasizing the show’s emotional depth. “Mo has such a huge heart. He cares about every single detail and makes sure we all bring our best,” she said. “He’s so emotional, even while shooting scenes—sometimes he would just cry. That’s how much this story means to him.”
Bsieso also highlighted the show’s impact beyond entertainment.
“We are the voice for people who don’t always have a voice to tell their stories,” she said. “This isn’t just a story about Palestinian people—it’s about the struggles that immigrants face, the challenges that go untold. People used to ask, ‘What is the issue with Palestine? Is it just two countries fighting?’ But now they get to see and understand in a deeper, more human way.”
She expressed deep appreciation for the Houston community. “I love Houston. I love Texas. I wish I could move here,” Bsieso said. “We enjoyed our time filming here. The people are so kind, and the city is beautiful.”
As the credits rolled on the night’s screening, the audience erupted in applause, celebrating not just the show’s success but the impact Amer’s storytelling has had on representation in Hollywood. Following the screening, Dave Chappelle joined the cast on stage for a Q&A session, where Mo Amer delved into the show’s deeper themes. With Mo Season 2 poised to reach an even larger audience, Amer remains committed to telling stories that resonate.
“It all goes back to tipping the hat to those who helped you along the way,” Amer said. “Houston has been everything for me, and this is my way of giving back.”
Mo Season 2 premieres on Netflix on January 30th, continuing its journey of laughter, love, and cultural authenticity.
