Night of the Living Dead 1990 Celebrates 35 Years With New ‘Uncensored Cut’

Tony Todd and Patricia Tallman’s Night of the Living Dead returns in 4K anniversary edition.

Horror fans are getting a bloodier bite of Tom Savini’s Night of the Living Dead remake as it marks its 35th anniversary with an all-new “Uncensored Cut” in 4K Ultra HD. The limited-edition Steelbook will be available on September 23.

A New Night for Terror

Originally released in 1990, Savini’s take on George A. Romero’s 1968 classic trapped seven strangers inside an isolated farmhouse while flesh-hungry zombies waged a relentless attack. Known for his groundbreaking makeup work on Friday the 13th and Creepshow, Savini amped up the gore for the ‘90s, delivering a remake that was graphic, gruesome, and terrifying in its own right.

The Uncensored Cut, supervised by Savini himself, restores previously unseen moments of graphic violence and offers an alternate vision of the film. This new presentation is paired with the original theatrical cut, both scanned in 4K with Dolby Vision.

The Legacy of Savini’s Remake

While Romero’s 1968 original remains a horror landmark, Savini’s version brought practical effects wizardry and a new intensity to the zombie genre for a generation raised on VHS rentals and midnight screenings. Now, fans can experience it in a form closer to the director’s vision.

The film stars Tony Todd (Candyman) as the determined Ben and Patricia Tallman as a resourceful Barbara, both delivering performances that redefined their characters for the modern era.

The Night of the Living Dead 35th Anniversary Uncensored 4K Steelbook shambles onto shelves September 23, ready to be devoured by collectors and horror enthusiasts alike.
