Call of Duty Heads to Hollywood With Paramount Film Deal

Activision and Paramount strike a deal for a Call of Duty feature film.

Paramount, a Skydance Corporation, has signed a landmark deal with Activision to adapt Call of Duty into a live-action feature film. The partnership represents a significant milestone for one of the world’s most successful video game franchises. It has sold over 500 million copies globally and has ranked as the No. 1 best-selling video game series in the United States for 16 consecutive years.

The project will see Paramount develop, produce, and distribute the film. The studio is aiming to capture the intensity, narrative depth, and larger-than-life action that have defined Call of Duty. Both companies say they are determined to honor the franchise’s established legacy while introducing it to new audiences around the world.

A Personal Passion Project for Paramount

For Paramount CEO David Ellison, the deal carries personal significance. A lifelong fan of the series, Ellison said he has been invested in the franchise since its earliest installments. From the original Allied campaigns to the Modern Warfare and Black Ops titles, he explained that he has “spent countless hours playing this franchise” that he loves.

He described being entrusted to translate Call of Duty for the big screen as both an honor and a responsibility. Paramount, he added, is approaching the project with the same disciplined commitment that guided Top Gun: Maverick. The goal, according to Ellison, is to deliver a cinematic experience that meets the exceptionally high standards of the franchise and its fans while thrilling longtime players and captivating a new generation.

Activision’s Commitment to Fans

Activision President Rob Kostich said the movie has been years in the making. He also credits the franchise’s ability to bring millions of people together through unforgettable action and storytelling. He noted that Call of Duty has consistently captured imaginations worldwide, and that focus on delivering incredible gameplay “remains unwavering.”

Kostich emphasized that Paramount is the right partner to carry that vision to the big screen. He described the film as a “defining cinematic moment” that will both honor the series’ legacy and expand upon it. He is ensuring an unforgettable blockbuster designed to excite loyal fans while drawing in new ones.

A Blockbuster in the Making

No release date or casting details have been announced. However, Paramount and Activision say production will ramp up quickly. With decades of rich storytelling and a built-in global fan base, Call of Duty is now one of the most anticipated video game adaptations to hit the big screen.
