Paul Walter Hauser Joins Netflix’s Live-Action Scooby-Doo Series as Mystery Deepens

Netflix continues to build excitement around its untitled live-action Scooby-Doo series with the addition of Paul Walter Hauser as a series regular. The Emmy-winning actor, known for standout performances in Black Bird and The Naked Gun, joins a growing ensemble that reimagines the iconic Mystery Inc. gang for a new generation of fans.

Hauser’s casting adds further star power to a series already generating buzz among longtime fans of the beloved franchise. Netflix previously announced Mckenna Grace as Daphne Blake, Tanner Hagen as Shaggy Rogers, Abby Ryder Fortson as Velma Dinkley, and Maxwell Jenkins as Fred Jones.

A Modern Mystery With Classic Roots

The series offers a modern reimagining of the legendary teen sleuths and their very special dog. Set during their final summer at camp, the story follows old friends Shaggy and Daphne as they become entangled in a haunting mystery involving a lost Great Dane puppy that may have witnessed a supernatural murder.

As secrets begin to surface, the pair teams up with Velma, a pragmatic and scientific-minded townie, and Freddy, a mysterious yet charismatic newcomer. Together, they must unravel a chilling mystery that threatens to expose hidden truths about each of them while pulling the group deeper into a nightmare scenario.

The premise blends coming-of-age storytelling with suspenseful mystery elements, positioning the show as both a nostalgic homage and a fresh take on the beloved franchise.

Scooby-Doo’s Enduring Legacy

For more than five decades, Scooby-Doo has remained one of the most recognizable brands in entertainment. The franchise has produced three theatrical films, more than a dozen animated television series, and nearly 40 animated home entertainment movies. Across generations, audiences have continued to connect with the humor, spooky mysteries, and unforgettable characters that define Mystery Inc.

By exploring the early dynamics of the group and introducing a darker, serialized mystery, Netflix’s new series aims to expand the mythology while honoring the legacy that has kept Scooby-Doo culturally relevant for over 50 years.

Creative Team Behind the Series

The series is developed by showrunners and writers Josh Appelbaum and Scott Rosenberg, working through Midnight Radio. Executive producers include Greg Berlanti, Sarah Schechter, and Leigh London Redman via Berlanti Productions and its overall deal with Warner Bros. Television. Additional executive producers include André Nemec, Jeff Pinkner, and Adrienne Erickson through Midnight Radio, with Toby Haynes directing Episode 101 and serving as an executive producer.
