Inside the hilarious, heartfelt press conference for the return of Phineas and Ferb.

After more than a decade, Disney’s Phineas and Ferb is making its grand return. The hit animated series is back with brand-new episodes starting June 5 on Disney Channel and June 6 on Disney+. In celebration, the full original cast and co-creators Dan Povenmire and Jeff “Swampy” Marsh gathered for a spirited virtual press conference, where I had the honor of kicking things off.
Summer Adventures and Nap Plans
“Which one of y’all would most likely go on a real summer adventure, and who would just nap all summer?” I asked.
Dan Povenmire laughed, admitting it depends on the kind of fall they’ve had. Alyson Stoner joked that Dan would nap but make sure to capture content for his TikTok. “He’d ask me to film his entire nap,” Vincent Martella (Phineas) chimed in. David Errigo Jr. (Ferb) proudly took the napper title, while Caroline Rhea (Linda) added she’d travel to Brazil with Vincent, who is apparently a superstar there. “It felt like being in Justin Timberlake’s entourage,” Povenmire said, recalling a D23 event in São Paulo.
Keeping the Classic Vibe Alive
While the team embraced the nostalgia, Povenmire and Marsh emphasized their goal was to keep the same energy that made the show a hit.
“We didn’t want to reinvent everything,” said Marsh. “It was working fine before.” Half the writers are veterans from the original run, while the other half are younger creatives who grew up with the series. “We’re just trying to keep the feel of the show,” Povenmire explained, “because that’s what the fans love.”
Candace, Perry, and All the Iconic Phineas and Ferb Voices
Ashley Tisdale, returning as Candace Flynn, revealed she recorded much of the new season while pregnant. “All I kept thinking was, ‘I hope this baby understands this isn’t real life!'” she said, laughing.

Dee Bradley Baker (Perry the Platypus) joked about taking a three-month “Dee-p dive” to get back into Perry’s grunts and chirps. David Errigo Jr., who took over as Ferb, expressed his gratitude at being fully embraced by the cast. “I thank my lucky stars,” he said.

Martella spoke emotionally about returning to Phineas, a character he’s voiced since he was a teenager. “Phineas has been a huge part of my life,” he said. “My first recording session back was very emotional.”
Alyson Stoner, who voices Isabella, shared how she warms up differently for the high-pitched character and teased that Isabella will show new emotional sides this season.
Caroline Rhea reflected on how the show has grown alongside her daughter. “Now Candace is a whole different person to me,” she said. “I kind of know her in three dimensions.”
A Global Legacy and Lasting Impact
The press conference often veered into heartwarming territory. Povenmire admitted to crying at a scene they wrote for Candace in the song “Summer Belongs to You.” Marsh added, “Whenever we get to show how much these siblings care about each other, those are my favorite moments.”

The cast and creators talked about how the show has reached every generation, from toddlers to college students to grandparents. One press member shared he was 19 in college when he first watched Phineas and Ferb and is now 37. Another said her grandson first got her into the series.
The creators revealed that the show’s head designs were inspired by doodling on butcher paper at a restaurant, and the show’s concept came from their desire to recapture the wild, creative energy of their childhood summers.
“We wanted to bring back that spirit of going outside and building go-karts and putting on plays,” Marsh said. “Things kids don’t always do anymore.”
Back With Heart, Humor, and 104 Days of Summer
Expect more of what made the show so beloved: crazy inventions, catchy songs, Candace’s ongoing quest to bust her brothers, and Perry’s double life as Agent P. The new episodes promise both laughs and heartfelt moments, with the original magic fully intact.

“We just feel so lucky,” said Stoner. “This cast is a real family.”
As Povenmire summed it up: “We set out to make a show that spreads joy. And it’s really beautiful that after all this time, people still need and love that.”
The new season of Phineas and Ferb premieres June 5 on Disney Channel and June 6 on Disney+.
