Rocky I-VI Film Collection Coming To 4K Ultra HD

The ultimate Rocky collection is arriving this summer.

MGM is set to release the complete collection of the iconic Rocky film series on 4K Ultra HD Disc for the first time. Fans can relive every punch and emotional moment with Rocky I-VI in stunning 4K resolution with High Dynamic Range (HDR), available on July 16, 2024. The collection includes all six films: Rocky (1976), Rocky II (1979), Rocky III (1982), Rocky IV (1985), Rocky V (1990), and Rocky Balboa (2006). Additionally, it features Rocky IV Ultimate Director’s Cut: Rocky vs. Drago and the Rocky Balboa Director’s Cut. Pre-order here.

A Blu-ray disc with an hour-long behind-the-scenes documentary on making the extended director’s cut of Rocky IV is included. Also featured are Sylvester Stallone’s commentary on Rocky Balboa with an alternate ending, deleted scenes, and four behind-the-scenes featurettes. Previously released special features are also part of the package. Rocky V and Rocky Balboa will be available in special Steelbook packaging for those who prefer individual films.

The 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray package includes an Ultra HD Blu-ray disc for each film in 4K with HDR, a bonus Blu-ray disc with the documentary, and a selection of pre-existing special features. Additionally, a digital version of the films is part of the package. The Ultra HD Blu-ray discs featuring Rocky, Rocky II, Rocky III, Rocky IV, Rocky IV Ultimate Director’s Cut, Rocky vs. Drago, Rocky V, Rocky Balboa, and the Rocky Balboa Director’s Cut will showcase Dolby Vision HDR, which expands the color palette and contrast range while using dynamic metadata to optimize the picture frame by frame.

A closer look at the films.

Rocky (1976): The original film that started it all, Rocky tells the story of a struggling Philadelphia club fighter, Rocky Balboa (Sylvester Stallone), who gets a once-in-a-lifetime chance to fight for glory. Directed by John G. Avildsen, the film won three Academy Awards, including Best Picture, and was preserved in the National Film Registry.

Rocky II (1979): After going the distance with the world heavyweight champion, Rocky must face a rematch. Directed by Stallone, the film continues Rocky’s journey as he balances life outside the ring with his calling as a boxer.

Rocky III (1982): Featuring the famous “eye of the tiger” theme, this film sees Rocky facing new challenges and an unexpected ally in his old rival, Apollo Creed (Carl Weathers). Directed by Stallone, it highlights Rocky’s determination to reclaim his title.

Rocky IV (1985): In this politically charged sequel, Rocky faces Drago (Dolph Lundgren), a Soviet fighter. The film, directed by Stallone, emphasizes patriotism and personal resolve themes. The collection also includes the Rocky IV Ultimate Director’s Cut: Rocky vs. Drago.

Rocky V (1990): Returning to his roots, Rocky faces financial and personal struggles after retiring from boxing. Directed by Avildsen, the film explores Rocky’s relationship with his son and a new protégé who betrays him.

Rocky Balboa (2006): Decades after his prime, Rocky comes out of retirement for a final bout. Directed by Stallone, the film reflects on aging, legacy, and the enduring spirit of a fighter. The collection includes an extended director’s cut with additional footage.
