Rocky Horror Picture Show Celebrates 50 Years With Global Events and 4K Restoration

The Rocky Horror Picture Show celebrates five decades with cast appearances, a 4K release, and global fan festivities.

This fall, The Rocky Horror Picture Show celebrates its 50th anniversary—a milestone for one of cinema’s most iconic and rebellious cult classics. The beloved midnight movie is getting the star treatment with special screenings, cast reunions, a 4K remaster, new merchandise, and more events that honor the film’s legacy of self-expression, inclusivity, and rock ‘n’ roll rebellion.

Based on the stage musical by Richard O’Brien, The Rocky Horror Picture Show broke barriers when it hit theaters in 1975. With its gender-bending characters, sci-fi horror homage, and sing-along soundtrack, the film redefined what a moviegoing experience could be. Midnight showings across the country became full-blown interactive events, spawning the now-famous audience participation tradition with shadow casts, costumes, and synchronized call-backs. It has since become the longest-running theatrical release in history, still playing in theaters weekly across the globe.

A Packed Schedule of Anniversary Events

To mark the film’s golden anniversary, a series of major events is planned throughout the fall:
