The Apprentice showcases how Roy Cohn shaped Donald Trump.

Sebastian Stan takes on the role of a young Donald Trump in The Apprentice. It is a film exploring the early life of the real estate mogul who would later become the 45th president of the United States. Directed by Ali Abbasi and written by Gabriel Sherman, The Apprentice delves into Trump’s rise in 1970s New York, where his ambition and thirst for success come to the forefront.
Stan portrays a hungry second son. He is eager to step out of his father’s shadow and make a name for himself in the high-stakes world of New York real estate. The film offers an intimate look at Trump’s journey as he navigates the city’s complex social and business landscape, ultimately forging the persona that would define him in the years to come.
At the heart of Trump’s evolution is his relationship with Roy Cohn, played by Jeremy Strong. Cohn, a notorious and ruthless attorney, becomes a mentor and advisor to the young Trump. He sees in him the raw ambition and willingness to do whatever it takes to succeed, qualities Cohn himself embodies. Their mentor-protégé dynamic is central to the film, highlighting how Cohn helped shape Trump’s business tactics and public persona.
Sherman’s screenplay paints a portrait of Trump’s formative years, focusing on the ambition, manipulation, and power struggles that would eventually turn him into one of the most recognizable figures in American politics. Abbasi’s direction brings the drama and intensity of the 1970s business world to life, with New York serving as a backdrop for Trump’s early rise to fame.

The Apprentice will hit theaters on October 11th. It will offer audiences a dramatic glimpse into the origins of one of the most polarizing figures in modern history.
