Sherry Cola Talks Bride Hard, Wedding Chaos, and Hopes for Joy Ride 2 – Interview

From Joy Ride to Bride Hard, Sherry Cola on her wildest roles.

Sherry Cola has never been one to play it safe—and in Bride Hard, she kicks things up another notch. The Joy Ride breakout star joins an ensemble of fierce women, including Rebel Wilson, Anna Camp, and Da’Vine Joy Randolph, for a high-stakes wedding comedy that turns a peaceful ceremony into an all-out action spectacle.

Bride Hard is going to be so refreshing,” Cola told me. “It’s women just kicking ass and being hilarious.”

Directed by Simon West (Con Air, Tomb Raider), the film follows Wilson’s character, Sam, a secret agent who returns home for her best friend’s wedding—only to find herself in the middle of a mercenary attack. It’s up to her and a mismatched bridal party to save the day, flowers and all.

“You Better Get Used to It”

Cola’s character brings both heart and chaos to the mix, channeling her real-life “party girl side” and her Type-A tendencies. “I’m so lucky to be able to express through my craft and be unapologetic,” she said. “Women are multidimensional… and we will shock you—and that’s OK!”

As a Chinese American queer immigrant, she also brought layers to the role that resonate beyond the screen. “I think women have been trying to use their voices in a time when society is rooting against it,” she said, explaining that Bride Hard gave her a space to be bold, funny, and fierce.

Chemistry and Chaos With Rebel Wilson

Working alongside Rebel Wilson was a major highlight for Cola. “We had so much chemistry,” she said. “We really operate the same, even in our riffs. We’re always focused on what the best version of the scene is.”

The result is a film that expertly blends outrageous action with heartfelt, hilarious moments. From spy-level stunts to chaotic bouquet tosses, Cola and Wilson’s dynamic is one of the movie’s biggest strengths. “You can’t put us in a box, honey,” Cola added, laughing. “And Nadine’s character adds that tough-love secret agent energy that balances things perfectly.”

Real Wedding Wipeouts and Viral Fame

If anyone was made for this movie, it’s Sherry Cola—especially since she had just wrapped up being a maid of honor in real life weeks before shooting began. “I still had that wedding energy in my breath,” she joked.

That energy almost got her knocked out, literally. At a wedding three years ago, she and her girlfriend jumped into one of those trendy 360-degree photo booths right after catching the bouquet. “I hopped off before it stopped spinning… and it almost knocked me out!” she recalled. “But I saved myself like an athletic cat—and we got it on camera in slow motion.” The clip blew up on TikTok, racking up over 11 million views.

Looking Ahead: Joy Ride 2?

While Cola is soaking in the chaos of Bride Hard, she’s also keeping her fingers crossed for another wild ride—Joy Ride 2. “Let’s manifest a sequel,” she said. “Me, Ashley, Stephanie, Sabrina—we have a bond that’s going to last forever.”

Bride Hard doesn’t just flip the script on spy comedies—it redefines them with a female-led ensemble that’s both hilarious and hard-hitting. For Cola, it’s another step in a career filled with fearlessness, representation, and perfectly timed punchlines.

And after chatting with her, we’re more convinced than ever: Sherry Cola is a star you can’t put in a box—even if it’s covered in wedding bows and dodging bullets.
