Greg Capullo returns with never-before-seen Spawn cover art.

This November, Todd McFarlane Productions is unwrapping something wicked for the holiday season with I Saw Santa, a chilling two-part miniseries set in the Spawn Universe. The special delivers a gruesome twist on Christmas folklore, confirming that Santa Claus is real—and not feeling very jolly.
The debut issue will feature four collectible covers, including a special wraparound variant by legendary Spawn artist Greg Capullo. This marks Capullo’s first new Spawn cover since his work on issues #313–316 in 2020 and 2021. Variant covers will also include artwork from Marco Failla and Todor Hristov, alongside a blank sketch edition.
Holiday Horror From Spawn Veterans
I Saw Santa is penned by brothers Chris Killian and Andrew Sanders, with illustrations by Thomas Nachlik, known for his atmospheric work on Sam and Twitch: Case Files. The two-part series promises to immerse readers in a sinister yuletide tale that blends crime, folklore, and Spawn’s dark mythology.

“This will be a crazy, seasonal story that will shed a light on Spawn and Santa like I’ve never presented,” said Spawn creator Todd McFarlane. “It’s the opposite of a fun-filled adventure. Chris and Andrew pitched me something that put a wicked smile on my face, and Thomas’ art sealed the tone for this bizarre storyline. Buckle up.”
Murder, Mystery, and Mythology
The story begins on Christmas Eve when Detectives Sam and Twitch investigate a brutal homicide, only to uncover a truth that may involve forces more powerful than they ever imagined.

“This is a love letter—maybe even a Christmas gift—to Spawn fans,” said co-writer Chris Killian. “It’s part murder mystery, part demented folklore, and completely in-universe. What if Santa Claus really existed in the dark world of Spawn?”

From New York’s snowy streets to the eerie halls of the North Pole, I Saw Santa reimagines St. Nick as a mythic figure haunted by the children he couldn’t save—and stalked by the one who became his worst nightmare.
