THE SPONGEBOB MOVIE: SEARCH FOR SQUAREPANTS will make waves in theaters this holiday season. Paramount Animation and Nickelodeon Movies have just released the first trailer for the all-new adventure. It is set to hit theaters on December 19, 2025.

SpongeBob Embarks on a Ghost Pirate Quest

In this brand-new underwater comedy, everyone’s favorite absorbent hero is ready to prove he’s more than just a fry cook. Desperate to show Mr. Krabs how brave he can be, SpongeBob SquarePants follows The Flying Dutchman. He is a ghostly swashbuckling pirate, on a deep-sea quest like no other. Joined by his loyal Bikini Bottom pals, SpongeBob sets sail for the deepest depths of the ocean, facing spooky surprises and hilarious trouble at every turn.

The movie is based on the beloved series created by the late Stephen Hillenburg. It promises plenty of laughs for both old and new fans.

Who’s On Board?

Derek Drymon directs the film from a screenplay by Pam Brady and Matt Lieberman, with the story by Marc Ceccarelli, Kaz, and Pam Brady. The voice cast is packed with familiar favorites and some fun new faces. Tom Kenny returns as SpongeBob alongside Clancy Brown, Rodger Bumpass, Bill Fagerbakke, Carolyn Lawrence, Mr. Lawrence, George Lopez, Isis “Ice Spice” Gaston, Arturo Castro, Sherry Cola, Regina Hall, and even Mark Hamill.
