Star Trek Day Kicks Off Countdown to 60th Anniversary

The Star Trek franchise is to celebrate six decades of bold storytelling in 2026.

Sixty years ago, creator Gene Roddenberry introduced audiences to a universe where “Infinite Diversity in Infinite Combinations” would serve as both its motto and its mission. Since then, Star Trek has grown into one of the most enduring franchises in entertainment, inspiring generations through its commitment to cultural diversity, scientific curiosity, and exploration of the unknown.

With 11 TV series, 14 feature films, and more than 900 episodes across multiple formats, the Star Trek canon remains a cornerstone of global pop culture. Available in over 190 countries, the franchise continues to thrive through television, film, animation, podcasts, publishing, and even children’s programming.

60th Anniversary Celebrations Begin in 2026

On this year’s Star Trek Day (Sept. 8, 2025), Paramount announced that the official 60th anniversary festivities will begin in January 2026 under the theme “Space for Everybody.” The yearlong celebration will highlight hope, exploration, and boldness with major events, new programming, and global fan-centric experiences.

The celebrations will debut on Jan. 1, 2026, with a customized Star Trek float in the Rose Parade® in Pasadena, Calif. Designed to represent values of inclusivity and unity, the float will also spotlight the upcoming Paramount+ series Starfleet Academy.

Paramount+ Expands the Trek Universe

Star Trek: Starfleet Academy will premiere in early 2026, introducing a new generation of cadets as they navigate friendships, rivalries, and the challenges of becoming Starfleet officers. Academy Award winner Holly Hunter will star as the Chancellor of Starfleet Academy and Captain of the U.S.S. Athena, with Academy Award nominee Paul Giamatti recurring as the season’s villain.

Meanwhile, Star Trek: Strange New Worlds concludes its third season on Sept. 11, 2025, streaming exclusively on Paramount+. The acclaimed series is already set for fourth and fifth seasons.

Partnerships and New Launches

Global initiatives and collaborations will mark the 60th anniversary:

  • DoSomething x “Boldly Go Green” – A youth-centered campaign designed to make a lasting environmental impact.
  • LEGO Collaboration – The LEGO Group and Paramount announced their first-ever Star Trek sets, blending shared values of imagination and exploration.
  • Webtoon PartnershipStar Trek will launch original digital comics on WEBTOON, engaging 155 million monthly active users worldwide.

New Star Trek Content Launching Today

In honor of Star Trek Day, two major new projects debut:

  • Star Trek: Scouts – A preschool-focused, animated YouTube series from Nickelodeon Digital Studio following young explorers on epic mini-missions. Two episodes are available now on the Blaze and the Monster Machines YouTube channel, with more rolling out through 2026.
  • Star Trek: Khan – A scripted podcast chronicling Khan Noonien Singh’s descent on Ceti Alpha V. Naveen Andrews (Lost) voices Khan, alongside Wrenn Schmidt, Sonya Cassidy, Tim Russ, and George Takei. Episodes drop weekly through Nov. 3.

Star Trek: The Cruise Returns

Adding to the festivities, Star Trek: The Cruise will embark from Feb. 20–27, 2026. The voyage will feature appearances by William Shatner, Walter Koenig, and more than 20 actors from across the franchise for a week of panels, performances, and fan events.

Digital Hub for Fans

A new website, StarTrek.com/60, will serve as the central hub for news, schedules, and content related to the anniversary celebrations throughout 2026.

The countdown to six decades is officially underway. As the franchise gears up for a landmark year, fans can expect even more announcements, events, and experiences honoring Roddenberry’s vision and the cultural impact that continues to shape science fiction and popular culture.
