Superman: Legacy To Kick Off New DC Universe

James Gunn’s DC Universe slate announcement was a big one, and it starts with Superman. Chapter 1, which will begin when The Flash resets everything, is titled God and Monsters, and Superman: Legacy is kicking it off. It will be released on July 11, 2025, and will not be starring Henry Cavill. This film will not be an origin story but will focus on Superman balancing his Kryptonian heritage with his human upbringing. Check out the segment of the video below of Gunn talking about Superman.

With our stories, we want to take it away from good guy vs. bad guy. There are really good—almost saintly—people, and Superman is among them. There are really terrible villains like Gorilla Grodd or the Joker. And then there’s everybody between them, so all these shades of gray allow us to tell complex stories.
