Rami Malek and Laurence Fishburne star in a new CIA thriller, The Amateur.
The first trailer for “The Amateur,” an upcoming espionage thriller from 20th Century Studios, has been released. The film stars Oscar winner Rami Malek (“Bohemian Rhapsody”). It also features Academy Award nominee Laurence Fishburne (“What’s Love Got to Do with It”). The film will open exclusively in theaters on April 11, 2025.
In “The Amateur,” Malek portrays Charlie Heller, a brilliant yet introverted decoder for the CIA, who spends his days tucked away in a basement office at CIA headquarters in Langley. When his wife is tragically killed in a terrorist attack in London, Heller’s life is upended. His deep frustration with the agency’s inaction leads him to take matters into his own hands. Heller is driven by grief and a thirst for justice. He embarks on a high-stakes journey across the globe. Heller uses his intelligence skills to track down the people responsible. Along the way, his decoding prowess becomes his primary asset as he navigates a network of adversaries and dangerous situations in pursuit of revenge.
Rachel Brosnahan, Caitríona Balfe, and Jon Bernthal join Malek in the film. Michael Stuhlbarg, Holt McCallany, and Julianne Nicholson also appear. Adrian Martinez and Danny Sapani complete the cast. Laurence Fishburne plays a key role in Heller’s gripping journey. Directed by James Hawes, “The Amateur” promises a tense, character-driven story with thrilling international intrigue.
Rami Malek is best known for winning an Oscar for his role as Freddie Mercury in “Bohemian Rhapsody.”
He’s done a ton of great work across different genres. He really shot to fame with the hit TV show “Mr. Robot,” where he played the hacker Elliot Alderson. In “No Time to Die,” the James Bond film, he played the villain Safin. This role added a cool twist to his career. Malek has an amazing talent for showing intense emotions. He brings complexity to his characters. These qualities make him a perfect fit for the character Heller in this action-packed thriller.
“The Amateur” hits theaters on April 11. It’s set to be an exciting story filled with revenge, clever plots, and some serious international drama.
