Glen Powell Stars in Edgar Wright’s The Running Man Adaptation – TRAILER

Edgar Wright revives The Running Man for a new generation.

Director Edgar Wright is taking audiences back to the dystopian world of The Running Man. It is the classic sci-fi thriller based on the novel by Stephen King. The new film, which Wright co-wrote with Michael Bacall, promises a fresh and intense spin on the story. It will blend King’s dark social commentary with Wright’s energetic filmmaking style.

What’s The Running Man About?

Set in a near-future society where reality TV has taken a brutal turn, The Running Man is the top-rated show on television. Contestants, called Runners, have to survive for 30 days while being hunted by professional killers. The catch? Every deadly moment is broadcast live to an audience hooked on bloodsport.

The story follows Ben Richards, a working-class man who is desperate to save his ailing daughter. Played by Glen Powell (Top Gun: Maverick, Anyone But You), Ben enters the game at the urging of the show’s charming but ruthless producer, Dan Killian, played by Josh Brolin. What starts as a desperate gamble turns into a full-on rebellion as Ben’s defiance and street smarts make him an unexpected fan favorite—and a threat to the entire system.

Star-Studded Cast

This new version of The Running Man has an impressive lineup of talent ready to bring this dystopian world to life. Glen Powell takes the lead as Ben Richards, with Josh Brolin playing the show’s charming but ruthless producer, Dan Killian. The film also features William H. Macy, Lee Pace, Emilia Jones, Michael Cera, Daniel Ezra, Jayme Lawson, and Colman Domingo.

With a cast like this, fans can expect plenty of intense moments, sharp performances, and characters you’ll love—and probably hate—in equal measure.

A Nod to the Book and the 1980s Classic

Stephen King’s novel (written under his pen name Richard Bachman) first hit shelves in 1982 and quickly became a cult favorite for its chilling look at media, violence, and desperation. In 1987, the story was turned into an action movie starring Arnold Schwarzenegger. That version leaned more into campy action, but Wright’s remake aims to bring things back to the book’s darker, satirical roots, while still packing plenty of thrills.

Coming This Fall

The Running Man hits theaters November 7. With Edgar Wright at the helm, fans can expect a movie that’s both thought-provoking and pulse-pounding. Get ready to run.
