Sydney Sweeney rides into a new genre in Americana.

Lionsgate is saddling up for the release of Americana, a modern-day Western set to hit theaters on August 22. The gritty thriller marks the feature film debut of writer-director Tony Tost, a poet and screenwriter known for his work on television’s Damnation.
Fronted by a star-studded ensemble, Americana stars Sydney Sweeney (Euphoria, Anyone But You), Paul Walter Hauser (Richard Jewell), Grammy-nominated artist Halsey, Simon Rex (Red Rocket), Eric Dane (Euphoria), and Zahn McClarnon (Reservation Dogs, Longmire).
Set against a backdrop of Americana and greed, the film follows a cast of desperate and dangerous characters chasing a rare Native American artifact that ends up on the black market. Sweeney plays a shy waitress who dreams of a better life and joins forces with a heartbroken military veteran (Hauser). Together, they attempt to recover the artifact, drawing the attention of a cold-blooded criminal (Dane) working for a shady antiquities dealer (Rex).

The hunt grows bloodier as others enter the fray—including the leader of an indigenous group (McClarnon) seeking to reclaim what’s rightfully his and a mysterious woman (Halsey) running from a troubled past.
