How Wild West C.O.W.-Boys of Moo Mesa Shaped My Childhood Arcade Memories

The wild return of Wild West C.O.W.-Boys of Moo Mesa.

The Nacelle Company is reviving a forgotten treasure from the early ‘90sWild West C.O.W.-Boys of Moo Mesa, a show that captured kids’ imaginations everywhere with its wild mix of Western adventure and anthropomorphic animals. Created by comic book artist Ryan Brown, the series first hit the airwaves in 1992 and quickly became a favorite among those who loved a good adventure set against the backdrop of the Old West—except this one was populated by evolved bovine characters. Now, over three decades later, Nacelle is set to give this beloved show new life with a reboot that will bring back the action-packed fun, along with brand-new toys and merchandise that promise to transport fans, old and new, straight back to Cow Town.

For those unfamiliar with Wild West C.O.W.-Boys of Moo Mesa, the story is a delightfully bizarre mix of the Old West with a heavy dose of imaginative charm. Set on a high mesa created by a radioactive comet, the series follows a group of cows who, thanks to a mysterious transformation, evolve into humanoid cowboys and cowgirls who defend their town from outlaws. Led by the honorable Marshal Moo Montana, the characters brought Western legends to life, only with a distinct twist that made it irresistibly quirky.

The Arcade Game that Captured My Heart and Quarters

This reboot announcement is more than just another revival—it’s a chance to revisit a piece of my childhood that has remained with me ever since those early days. For me, Wild West C.O.W.-Boys of Moo Mesa wasn’t just a show; it was a world I could dive into whenever my parents took me to two of my favorite spots—CiCi’s Pizza and Fuddruckers. You see, both places had arcades, and whenever my parents would take me out to eat, they knew I couldn’t resist a few rounds at the arcade. And if that arcade had Wild West C.O.W.-Boys of Moo Mesa, I was in heaven.

I have vivid memories of staring wide-eyed at the screen as I guided Marshal Moo Montana and his companions through colorful levels, battling bandits and bosses with enthusiasm only a kid with a pocket full of quarters could have. My parents, saints as they were, would indulge my obsession with quarters, letting me rack up as much playtime as possible. But they also had to balance it out with the inevitable: getting me to sit down and eat my food before disappearing back into Cow Town. It was a tricky game for them, but for me, those nights were magical.

CiCi’s Pizza was a paradise with its “three levels” of arcade games.

The sheer size of the place, packed with games like Wild West C.O.W.-Boys of Moo Mesa, felt like a dreamland. And Fuddruckers, with its two-story layout, was equally as special. While the games are what I remember most, those nights were also about family—spending evenings together, sharing meals, and creating memories that are still so clear in my mind. Even though both locations no longer exist, they hold a special place in my heart, tied forever to those times when nothing mattered more than that next level or defeating the next big boss.

Reunited with the game.

Recently, I was lucky enough to stumble upon the Wild West C.O.W.-Boys of Moo Mesa arcade game once again, thanks to a local gem—Cidercade. Walking in and hearing the familiar sounds of the arcade instantly brought back a rush of childhood memories. Seeing that C.O.W.-Boys of Moo Mesa cabinet sitting there was like stepping into a time machine. I couldn’t resist reliving the excitement of guiding Moo Montana through the game’s colorful levels. It was a nostalgic thrill that reminded me why this game still holds a special place in my heart, even after all these years.

Nacelle’s vision for the revival.

With the return of Wild West C.O.W.-Boys of Moo Mesa, a part of my childhood is coming back, too. Nacelle’s new line of action figures featuring Marshal Moo Montana, Cowlamity Kate, and Sheriff Terrorbull are not just toys—they’re nostalgic tokens that remind us of simpler times when we could lose ourselves in the worlds we loved. As an adult, I’m excited to see these characters return, and I can’t wait to share this quirky, action-packed series with a new generation of fans. Whether you’re a longtime fan or discovering Cow Town for the first time, the return of Wild West C.O.W.-Boys of Moo Mesa is bound to be MOOvelous.

Pre-sales for the new action figures are on the Nacelle site.
