Supergirl Trailer Reveals Dark Mission, Krypto’s Fate, Jason Momoa’s Lobo

DC’s Supergirl to feature Kara Zor-El’s most personal mission yet.

DC Studios has released the first full trailer for Supergirl, offering a deeper look at Kara Zor-El as she searches for purpose in a universe shaped by loss. Milly Alcock stars in the dual role of Supergirl and Kara Zor-El, presenting a version of the iconic hero still haunted by Krypton’s destruction while navigating her place among humanity.

Directed by Craig Gillespie and written by Ana Nogueira, the film blends cosmic scale with an intimate character journey. When a ruthless adversary threatens someone Kara loves, she reluctantly teams up with an unexpected ally and sets off on an interstellar mission driven by vengeance and justice.

The trailer positions Supergirl as a powerful emotional centerpiece in DC Studios’ evolving cinematic universe, emphasizing identity, trauma, and resilience.

Krypto’s Fate Drives the Story Forward

At the heart of the story is Krypto, Kara’s loyal super-dog and the last living connection to her Kryptonian past. The trailer reveals that Krem of the Yellow Hills poisons Krypto, giving Kara only three days to recover the antidote and save him.

Ruthye Marye Knoll, played by Eve Ridley, tracks Kara down to help hunt the brutal villain responsible for her family’s death. Their partnership launches a high-stakes journey across space as Kara confronts both external threats and unresolved pain tied to the loss of her home world.

Krypto represents more than companionship. He symbolizes Kara’s final emotional link to Krypton and the life she lost, raising the personal stakes behind every decision she makes.

Jason Momoa Debuts as Lobo

The trailer also provides the first full look at Jason Momoa as Lobo, the infamous antihero known for his unpredictable behavior and overwhelming strength. His presence suggests the film will explore darker corners of the DC universe while introducing audiences to new cosmic conflicts.

David Krumholtz appears as Zor-El, Kara’s father, adding another emotional layer connected to Krypton’s legacy. Emily Beecham joins the cast alongside Ridley and Matthias Schoenaerts, helping shape a story that balances science fiction spectacle with grounded character drama.

DC Studios leaders Peter Safran and James Gunn produce the film, continuing their approach of building a unified universe centered on character-driven storytelling.

Expanding the DC Universe

Based on characters created by Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster, Supergirl introduces a bold new chapter for the legendary Kryptonian hero. The creative team includes director of photography Rob Hardy, production designer Neil Lamont, editor Tatiana S. Riegel, costume designers Anna B. Sheppard and Michael Mooney, visual effects supervisor Geoffrey Baumann, music supervisor Susan Jacobs, and composer Claudia Sarne.

The trailer signals a film focused on emotional stakes as much as spectacle, positioning Kara Zor-El as a central figure in the next phase of DC storytelling.
