AJames Cameron’s Avatar: Fire and Ash Ignites a $1 Billion Global Box Office, Pushing Franchise Past $6 Billion

Avatar: Fire and Ash just hit another huge milestone for James Cameron’s blockbuster universe.

The Walt Disney Studios said the latest 20th Century Studios entry has surpassed $1 billion at the global box office, adding another major win for the long-running franchise. The studio said the film’s momentum reflects the series’ continued pull with worldwide audiences, especially in premium formats.

A Billion-Dollar Run on Pandora

The $1 billion mark makes Fire and Ash the third Avatar film to cross that threshold globally. That puts Avatar in a rare club, since very few franchises have three separate films that each reached $1 billion.

Meanwhile, Disney also noted Fire and Ash is the studio’s third $1 billion release of 2025, alongside Zootopia 2 and Lilo & Stitch.

The studio also credited the movie’s legs to steady international play and continued demand for higher-priced formats. Those have been key to Avatar’s box office identity since 2009. Read our review.

Key Box Office Numbers Disney Shared:

  • $1.083 billion global gross to date
  • $306 million domestic
  • $777.1 million international
  • Standout international markets included:
    • China: $138 million
    • France: $81 million
    • Germany: $64 million
    • Korea: $44 million

Additionally, Disney said the Avatar franchise total now exceeds $6.35 billion worldwide across three films.
