Ben Affleck directs and stars alongside Kerry Washington in a tense thriller about two parents forced to make impossible choices after their son is kidnapped.
Ben Affleck is once again coming back to the thriller world of Netflix, but this time, he’s got a family to protect. Viewers can certainly expect Affleck to return to the action with Animals as there are new limits to be tested. In fact, the first teaser for Animals shows a harrowing look at the upcoming film.
From the short teaser, viewers can expect a more contained approach that Affleck’s taking with this story. Animals follows Mark, a mayoral candidate, and his family who live relatively peaceful lives as another election cycle nears. However, when their son gets kidnapped, him and his wife scramble to try and get their son back through ransoms. They’ll be forced to make the hard choices to regain the solace they’ve lost.
In addition to the new teaser, Netflix also released new first look photos at Affleck and Washington’s characters. However, they certainly don’t know who to trust as this drama thriller explores the terrible night Mark and Abigail will have to go through.
Affleck is a veteran of the thriller genre as viewers have previously seen him alongside Matt Damon in Netflix’s The Rip. Additionally, Kerry Washington, who plays Mark’s wife Abigail, was in her own mystery that also spiraled into madness thanks to Rian Johnson’s Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery. Given how both actors were wrapped up in similar worlds, Animals may feel like a culmination of those experiences.

In addition to Affleck and Washington, the main cast of Animals includes Gillian Anderson, Adriana Paz, Ray Fisher, Christopher Woodley, Matt Gerald, Jacob Estrada, Luis Gerardo Méndez, and Steven Yeun. Affleck also directs and writes alongside Connor O. McIntyre and Billy Ray.
Although Affleck and Damon aren’t partnering together on-screen, they are collaborating behind the scenes. Animals is produced under Artists Equity, the production brand that was founded under Ben Affleck, Matt Damon, and Gerry Cardinale.
Brad Weston, Collin Creighton, Dani Bernfeld, and Luciana Damon also serve as producers for Animals. The executive producing team includes Michael Beugg; Kevin Halloran and Michael Joe for Artists Equity; Graham Taylor, Chris Rice, Christopher Slager, and Dan Guando for Fifth Season.
Animals premieres in select theaters and Netflix on October 9.
