Carrie Trailer Unleashes Mike Flanagan’s Prime Video Reinvention

Summer H. Howell steps into the iconic role for an eight-episode adaptation of Stephen King’s debut novel.

Prime Video has tipped the bucket and released the official trailer for Carrie, Mike Flanagan’s haunting new reinvention of Stephen King’s seminal horror story.

Summer H. Howell leads the eight-episode series as Carrie White. The young actor earned the iconic role following an extensive search in which nearly 1,500 performers read for the part.

The trailer introduces a version of Carrie who remains recognizable but is shaped by the pressures of the modern world. Her painful journey now unfolds amid viral bullying, social media cruelty, and the unforgiving ecosystem of public high school.

All eight episodes of Carrie will premiere Wednesday, Oct. 7, 2026, exclusively on Prime Video.

Carrie Trailer Reimagines Stephen King’s Classic Story

Based on King’s 1974 debut novel, Carrie follows a sheltered teenager who has spent most of her life hidden inside her home. Carrie lives under the control of her fiercely protective and deeply religious mother, Margaret White, played by Samantha Sloyan.

Her father’s sudden death forces Carrie into public high school. The transition leaves her exposed to judgment, bullying, and pressure from classmates who can turn a humiliating moment into viral entertainment.

Carrie soon discovers that she possesses mysterious telekinetic powers. Those abilities grow stronger alongside her emotions and adolescence, setting the stage for the devastating night that has defined the character for generations.

The series will explore the smaller choices and acts of cruelty that gradually push Carrie toward her breaking point. It also asks whether audiences are watching the creation of a hero, a monster, or someone far more complicated.

Mike Flanagan Expands Carrie Across Eight Episodes

Carrie marks the first time King’s novel has been adapted as a television series. The eight-episode format gives Flanagan room to deepen the characters, relationships and tensions surrounding Carrie White.

Flanagan wrote the series and serves as showrunner and executive producer. He also directed Episodes 1, 2, 7 and 8, giving him direct control over the beginning and conclusion of Carrie’s tragic journey.

The filmmaker has become one of modern horror’s most respected storytellers through projects such as Midnight Mass and The Haunting of Hill House. His work often combines supernatural horror with grief, trauma, family conflict, and deeply human characters.

Stephen King also serves as an executive producer on the series.

The official trailer presents Carrie as both haunting and heartbreaking. It offers glimpses of the cruelty surrounding its central character while leaving questions about what truly happened in Chamberlain.

Summer H. Howell Leads the Carrie Cast

Howell is joined by an extensive ensemble of established actors and rising stars.

Samantha Sloyan plays Carrie’s mother, Margaret White, while Siena Agudong stars as Sue Snell. Alison Thornton appears as Chris Hargensen, Joel Oulette plays Tommy Ross, and Arthur Conti takes on the role of Billy.

The main cast also includes Josie Totah as Tina, Thalia Dudek as Emaline, Amber Midthunder as Miss Desjardin and Matthew Lillard as Principal Grayle.

Several longtime Flanagan collaborators will appear in recurring roles. The guest cast includes Michael Trucco, Crystal Balint, Kate Siegel, Rahul Kohli, Tim Bagley and Heather Graham.

The ensemble gives the series several familiar faces from Flanagan’s previous projects, including The Haunting of Hill House and The Fall of the House of Usher. It also brings performers such as Midthunder and Lillard into his creative circle.

Carrie Remains a Defining Piece of Horror History

King’s Carrie was published in 1974 and launched one of the most successful careers in literary history. His books have since sold more than 350 million copies worldwide.

The novel spent 14 weeks on The New York Times Best Seller list and has been translated into more than 35 languages.

Brian De Palma directed the first film adaptation in 1976. The movie starred Sissy Spacek as Carrie White and Piper Laurie as Margaret White, with both performers earning Academy Award nominations.

The film’s prom sequence remains one of the most recognizable moments in horror history. Prime Video’s new series arrives during the 50th anniversary year of De Palma’s adaptation, introducing Carrie White to another generation.

Previous screen versions include a 2002 television movie and the 2013 theatrical remake starring Chloë Grace Moretz and Julianne Moore. Flanagan’s adaptation will have considerably more time to explore Carrie’s internal struggle and the community surrounding her.

Carrie premieres with all eight episodes on Wednesday, October 7, 2026, on Prime Video.
