The Road to the Sekai Taikai begins with Cobra Kai Season 6 Part 1.

The pop culture phenomenon “Cobra Kai” continues the legacy of “The Karate Kid” in spectacular fashion. With the first part of its sixth and final season now streaming, the series proves it still has plenty of fight left. After the explosive conclusion of Season 5, fans were left wondering how the show could possibly top itself. Season 6, which will unfold in three parts, seems poised to unleash everything it has been building towards. With Cobra Kai eliminated from the Valley, our senseis and students must decide if and how they will compete in the Sekai Taikai — the world karate championships.

The show can be a bit cringy at times.
However, the awesome fight scenes and intense moments totally make up for it. The tension is off the charts as Daniel LaRusso (Ralph Macchio) and Johnny Lawrence (William Zabka) get their students ready for the Sekai Taikai. Even though they clash sometimes, they’re all working towards the same goal. Meanwhile, John Kreese (Martin Kove) is lurking in the shadows, putting together his team to take them on. One of the coolest things about this season is that we get to see more of Kreese’s character and learn what makes him tick.

Season 6, Part 1 might not have big surprises until the last episode, but that cliffhanger will make the wait for Part 2 really tough. Yuji Okumoto is great as Chozen, bringing humor without making it cringy. The challenges faced by Xolo Maridueña (Miguel Diaz), Mary Mouser (Samantha LaRusso), Tanner Buchanan (Robby Keene), and Peyton List (Tory) are more intense than ever, adding depth to their characters. Daniel’s journey also takes him deeper into Mr. Miyagi’s teachings, giving a nostalgic but fresh feel to the series. Despite the many storylines, the show never feels overwhelming or distracting, keeping a perfect balance.
Verdict
I give “Cobra Kai,” Season 6, Part 1, 4 out of 5 stars. As we look forward to the series’ conclusion and the upcoming “Karate Kid” feature film in 2025, “Cobra Kai” continues to deliver compelling drama and action. The show, set over 30 years after the 1984 All Valley Karate Tournament, keeps the inescapable conflict between Daniel and Johnny alive and kicking.
