David Krumholtz Says ‘Supergirl’ Stays True to Woman of Tomorrow Graphic Novel

Supergirl star David Krumholtz praises comic accuracy and teases Krypton’s legacy in the DCU.

Actor David Krumholtz is joining James Gunn’s reimagined DC Universe in Supergirl and he couldn’t be more enthusiastic about the film’s faithfulness to its source material. “It’s very true to the graphic novel that it’s based on, Woman of Tomorrow,” Krumholtz told Nerdtropolis. “Which is great.” The actor has long been a fan favorite for his versatility. He added that he’s honored to help expand the mythology of Superman’s home world. “I’m thrilled to be sort of the next piece of telling the story of Krypton and sort of further clarifying what the House of El is all about,” he said.

Though tight-lipped about plot details, Krumholtz confirmed one major piece of casting news: “Everybody knows that Jason Momoa is playing Lobo in it. So it’s that comic plus Lobo,” he teased.

The DCU’s Next Chapter

The 2026 DC Studios film is directed by Craig Gillespie and written by Ana Nogueira. Supergirl stars Milly Alcock as Kara, alongside David Krumholtz as Zor-El, Eve Ridley, Matthias Schoenaerts, and Jason Momoa as Lobo.

The film will be the second movie in James Gunn’s DCU. The movie follows Superman and will connect threads from the upcoming Lanterns series, further expanding the cosmic side of the DCU. Supergirl is set to hit theaters on June 26, 2026.

Caleb Alexander Smith: The Next Batman?

During Nerdtropolis’ conversation about Smith’s upcoming film Forelock, a madcap Hollywood dark comedy he wrote, directed, and stars in, both David Krumholtz and I couldn’t help but joke about Smith’s potential as Gotham’s next Dark Knight.

“I want to see him as Bruce Wayne,” Sean said. “I see him as the next Batman. After this interview, I see that. It’s crazy, actually, but I truly believe that.” Krumholtz agreed without hesitation. “No, he’d be an awesome Bruce Wayne.” Laughing at the suggestion, Caleb Alexander Smith replied, “Oh, yeah. Well, start the conversation. I’m here for it. I’m tired of being the other guy.”

The exchange quickly became a highlight moment—showcasing Smith’s confidence, Krumholtz’s endorsement, and a fan-fueled “what if” that DCU fans may not stop talking about anytime soon.

The Future of the DCU

As excitement builds for Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow, it’s clear the DC Universe is evolving into something far more connected, character-driven, and bold. With Krumholtz bringing heart to the House of El and Smith jokingly stepping into Bruce Wayne’s shoes, the future of Gods and Monsters looks brighter—and darker—than ever.
