Aardman’s stop-motion Pokémon Tales: The Misadventures of Sirfetch’d & Pichu is headed to Disney+ and Disney XD alongside the classic Pokémon animated series.

Disney+ is expanding its Pokémon lineup through a new global distribution deal with The Pokémon Company International.
The agreement includes the upcoming stop-motion series Pokémon Tales: The Misadventures of Sirfetch’d & Pichu, created by acclaimed animation studio Aardman. The series will debut on Disney XD and stream exclusively on Disney+ in 2027.
Disney and The Pokémon Company International announced the deal Friday during Pokémon XP, where the first teaser trailer for the new series was also revealed.
The agreement also brings the classic animated series Pokémon the Series: The Beginning into the partnership. The series began airing on Disney XD earlier this month and is now streaming on Disney+ in the U.S. and select international markets.
Aardman Brings Pokémon’s Galar Region To Stop-Motion
Pokémon Tales: The Misadventures of Sirfetch’d & Pichu will follow the unlikely duo on an adventure through the Galar Region.

Sirfetch’d and Pichu set out on a quest to help and protect Pokémon throughout Galar. Their missions do not always go according to plan, with the pair encountering new allies, rivals and extraordinary Pokémon along the way.
The adventures will also build the friendship between Sirfetch’d and Pichu as they face danger and plenty of comedic mishaps together.
The project gives Aardman the opportunity to reinterpret the Pokémon world through the studio’s distinctive stop-motion animation. Aardman is the animation studio behind Wallace & Gromit, Chicken Run and Shaun the Sheep.
“Pokémon has that rare ability to mean something to longtime fans while continuing to feel completely relevant to young audiences today,” Ayo Davis, president of Disney Kids & Family, said.
Davis praised Aardman’s approach to the franchise, saying the studio brings its “signature stop-motion artistry” and a playful new perspective to the Pokémon universe.
Alongside Pokémon the Series: The Beginning, Davis called the shows “powerful additions” to Disney XD and Disney+.
Pokémon And Aardman Creative Team Reveal New Series
Pokémon director of original animation Phil Rynda appeared at Pokémon XP alongside members of Aardman’s creative team to discuss the project.
“These stories, full of adventure and heroism, all told from the perspective of Pokémon is made even more exciting through the lens of the incredible filmmakers at Aardman,” Rynda said.
Rynda added that Aardman’s interpretation of Galar creates a tactile world designed to make audiences feel like they could step directly into the Pokémon region and adventure alongside its characters.
Director Tom Parkinson leads the Aardman creative team behind The Misadventures of Sirfetch’d & Pichu. He is joined by Creative Director – IP Development Nat McKay and Model Making Creative Lead James Young.
The Pokémon Company International produced the series, while Disney Kids & Family acquired it as part of the new global distribution agreement.
The Classic Adventures Are Also Coming To Disney+
The deal is not limited to new Pokémon stories.
Pokémon the Series: The Beginning marks the first title released under the new distribution agreement. The classic series follows Ash Ketchum and Pikachu as they travel through the Pokémon world, meet new friends, and battle other Pokémon Trainers.
The series is currently airing on Disney XD and streaming on Disney+.
Bringing both the franchise’s earliest animated adventures and an entirely new Aardman production under the same agreement gives Disney a mix of Pokémon nostalgia and original programming.
Pokémon Tales: The Misadventures of Sirfetch’d & Pichu will debut on Disney XD and stream exclusively on Disney+ in 2027.
