Nickelodeon and Paramount+ Announce New Live-Action Movie Dora and the Search for Sol Dorado

The feature-length Dora film premieres on July 2 as part of the franchise’s 25th anniversary celebration.

Nickelodeon and Paramount+ are officially expanding the beloved Dora the Explorer universe with the upcoming premiere of Dora and the Search for Sol Dorado. This original feature-length live-action movie will debut Wednesday, July 2, on Paramount+ and Nickelodeon in the U.S. and then roll out internationally.

Starring Samantha Lorraine (You Are So Not Invited to My Bat Mitzvah) as a 16-year-old Dora, this family-friendly adventure sees the world’s greatest explorer face new challenges deep in the Amazonian jungle. Dora and her loyal cousin Diego, played by Jacob Rodriguez, must uncover the ancient treasure of Sol Dorado before it falls into the wrong hands.

Rounding out the cast are Mariana Garzón Toro as Naiya, Diego’s fearless coworker; Acston Luca Porto as Sonny, Naiya’s curious younger brother; Daniella Pineda as Camila the Crusader, a legendary archaeologist and Dora’s childhood hero; and comedian Gabriel “Fluffy” Iglesias as the voice of the iconic monkey sidekick, Boots.

Alberto Belli (The Naughty Nine) directed the film, which was written by JT Billings (Are You Afraid of the Dark?). Executive producers include Adam Bonnett (Monster High: The Movie), Chris Gifford, and Valerie Walsh Valdes, co-creators of the original Dora the Explorer series.

Shot on location in Colombia, Dora and the Search for Sol Dorado launches “The Great Dora Fiesta,” a multiplatform celebration marking the franchise’s 25th anniversary.

As part of the initiative, Nickelodeon and Paramount+ will also debut:

  • An hour-long special of the CG-animated preschool series DORA, titled Dora & Diego: Rainforest Rescues, premiering July 2. The special focuses on how Diego met his best friend, Baby Jaguar.
  • A third season of DORA (26 episodes, 11 minutes each), also premiering July 2 exclusively on Paramount+ in the U.S. and select international markets. A special birthday-themed episode will air on Nickelodeon during the franchise’s official anniversary week, beginning Friday, Aug. 15.
  • A fourth season is already in the works and will premiere later in the year.

Guest stars for the new DORA season include Danny Trejo as Santa and Jett Gomez alongside her father Taboo as Quickatina and Quickatoo, respectively.

Since its debut on Aug. 14, 2000, Dora the Explorer has become one of the most-watched preschool shows ever, reaching audiences in over 150 countries and translated into 32 languages. The franchise has earned numerous awards, including Emmys, Peabody, NAACP Image Awards, and more, while continuing to cross cultural, racial, and language boundaries.

The live-action Dora and the Search for Sol Dorado promises to deliver the same heart, humor, and adventure that fans of all ages have come to love, with a bold new look and a fresh story for a new generation.
