Behind the scenes with Elizabeth Tabish’s portrayal of Mary Magdalene in “The Chosen.”

Elizabeth Tabish is an accomplished actress and filmmaker best known for her portrayal of Mary Magdalene in the hit series The Chosen. With a Master’s degree in Theater and a Bachelor’s in Screen Studies from Oklahoma State University, Tabish has excelled in front of the camera and behind it, directing and producing several award-winning short films. In my recent interview with Tabish, she reflected on her journey as Mary Magdalene, a role she’s embodied since Season 1 of The Chosen. I asked how her portrayal has evolved through the seasons and how her connection to the character goes beyond the script. In addition to her continued work on The Chosen, Tabish will appear in The Best Christmas Pageant Ever. Watch Below!
The series has become a cultural phenomenon, amassing over 200 million viewers worldwide.
Originally launched as a crowd-funded project, the show now has more than 770 million episode views and 13 million social media followers. Despite its immense popularity in faith communities, The Chosen remains relatively under the radar in secular circles. The series is a multi-season historical drama that focuses on the life of Jesus (played by Jonathan Roumie), as seen through the perspectives of those closest to him, such as his apostles and Mary Magdalene.
With Season 4 currently airing, The Chosen takes on even more complex themes as Jesus’ followers face rising opposition. In this season, the stakes are raised as religious leaders ally with Roman oppressors, setting the stage for betrayal and the ultimate test of faith. As The Chosen continues to gain momentum, creator Dallas Jenkins has announced the formation of 5&2 Studios. This company will oversee future biblical projects and ensure fans can expect more content in the “Chosen way.”
Catch Elizabeth Tabish and her portrayal of Mary Magdalene in Season 4, now streaming on Amazon Prime, Peacock, and The CW.
