Legally Blonde Prequel Series “Elle” Sets July Premiere on Prime Video, Lands Season 2 Renewal

Reese Witherspoon teases High School origins in “Elle” for Prime Video.

Prime Video will take fans back to the beginning of Elle Woods this summer. The streamer announced that “Elle,” the highly anticipated “Legally Blonde” prequel series from Hello Sunshine and Amazon MGM Studios, will premiere July 1, 2026. The series will stream exclusively on Prime Video in more than 240 countries and territories worldwide.

Prime Video also ordered a second season of “Elle” ahead of the show’s Season 1 debut. The early renewal signals big confidence in the creative team and the franchise pull.

What “Elle” Is About

Season 1 follows Elle Woods in high school. The series explores the life experiences that shaped her into the iconic young woman audiences met in the first “Legally Blonde” film. The story aims to keep Elle’s signature optimism while showing how she earned it.

Reese Witherspoon, who played Elle Woods in the films, framed the series as both a throwback and a fresh start.

“Twenty-five years after the world met Elle Woods for the first time, it’s a dream come true to share the story of how she became the unstoppable force we all fell in love with,” Witherspoon said. “Discovering Lexi Minetree and watching her step into Elle’s fabulous shoes has been one of the most gratifying experiences of my career. I think our series’ themes of kindness, authenticity, and believing in yourself will resonate deeply with fans of the original films and new audiences alike. Working with our incredible Hello Sunshine team, Amazon, and our visionary writers and directors to bring Elle’s high school journey to life has been a tremendous joy. I can’t wait to share Season One with the world and start rolling cameras on Season Two!”

Prime Video’s Take on the Renewal

Amazon MGM Studios television leadership says the show leans into what made Elle a lasting favorite.

“Elle captures the heart, confidence, and optimism that made Elle Woods an enduring cultural icon, while giving audiences a fresh and deeply personal coming-of-age story,” said Peter Friedlander, Global Head of Television, Amazon MGM Studios. “Ordering a second season speaks to our belief in the creative vision and the incredible team behind the series, and we’re excited for audiences to experience Elle’s journey starting with Season One.”

Creative Team and Directors

Laura Kittrell (“High School,” “Insecure”) created “Elle.” Kittrell co-showruns the series and executive produces alongside Caroline Dries. Witherspoon, Lauren Neustadter, Marc Platt, and Amanda Brown also executive produce. Jason Moore (“Pitch Perfect”) directed the first two episodes of Season 1. He also serves as an executive producer.

Cast of Elle

Lexi Minetree stars as Elle Woods. June Diane Raphael plays Elle’s mother, Eva. Tom Everett Scott plays her father, Wyatt. The Season 1 cast also includes Gabrielle Policano, Jacob Moskovitz, Chandler Kinney, and Zac Looker.

Recurring cast members include Jessica Belkin, Logan Shroyer, Amy Pietz, Matt Ober, Chloe Wepper, David Burtka, Brad Harder, Kayla Maisonet, Lisa Yamada, and James Van Der Beek.

How It Connects to the “Legally Blonde” Films

The “Legally Blonde” films turned Elle Woods into a pop culture staple. The first movie followed her from heartbreak to Harvard Law, with Elle proving doubters wrong through drive and charm. The sequel, “Legally Blonde 2: Red, White & Blonde,” pushed her into Washington politics and big-picture ambition. The franchise later expanded with the spin-off film “Legally Blondes.”

Now “Elle” aims to show the earlier chapter fans have never seen. It starts before Harvard, before the pink suits became a signature, and before the world learned to underestimate her at its own risk.
