Back to the Future Part II Returns to Theaters for 35th Anniversary

For two nights, Fathom Events brings Back to the Future Part II to theaters.

In celebration of its 35th anniversary, Back to the Future Part II will return to theaters this October, courtesy of Fathom Events. On October 19 and 21, audiences can once again experience the iconic time-travel adventure on the big screen, marking a milestone for one of the most beloved sequels in film history.

Originally released on November 22, 1989, Back to the Future Part II continues the thrilling adventures of Marty McFly and Dr. Emmett Brown, portrayed by Michael J. Fox and Christopher Lloyd. Picking up right where the first film left off, the duo hurtles into the year 2015 in an attempt to fine-tune the future, only to accidentally disrupt the space-time continuum. Their only hope to restore the present lies in a return trip to 1955, where they must fix the timeline before it’s too late. Directed by Robert Zemeckis and written by Bob Gale, the sequel proved that lightning can strike twice, captivating audiences with its complex storylines, stunning special effects, and signature wit.

Exclusive Pre-Screening Content: JAWS 19 and the Hoverboard Commercial

In addition to the film, fans attending the re-release will be treated to two nostalgic commercials from 2015, as featured in the movie: the fictional trailer for JAWS 19 and a hoverboard advertisement. These playful nods to the future as imagined in the 1980s serve as a charming reminder of the film’s creative legacy.

Zemeckis and Gale, who had not initially planned for Back to the Future to become a trilogy, returned to continue Marty and Doc’s journey through alternate timelines and eras. The film culminates in a cliffhanger, setting up the concluding chapter, Back to the Future Part III. This unique production saw Part II and Part III shot back-to-back, with only eight days separating the two shoots. While audiences were left eagerly anticipating the fate of their favorite characters, the wait was relatively short. Part III debuted just five months later.

Starring Michael J. Fox, Christopher Lloyd, Lea Thompson, Thomas F. Wilson, Elisabeth Shue, and more, Back to the Future Part II remains a timeless piece of cinema. It continues to thrill both longtime fans and new audiences alike.Tickets for this special anniversary event are available through Fathom Events.
