‘Freaky Tales’ brings wild, star-studded action to Theaters this April.

Ryan Fleck and Anna Boden, the filmmaking duo behind Half Nelson and Captain Marvel, return with Freaky Tales. It is a bold and chaotic love letter to 1987 Oakland. The genre-blending film is set to hit theaters on April 4. The film delivers a high-energy mix of action, humor, and music, with an all-star ensemble cast.

The film stars Pedro Pascal and Ben Mendelsohn. Also part of the cast are Jay Ellis, Normani, Dominique Thorne, Jack Champion, Ji-young Yoo, the late Angus Cloud, and Tom Hanks. Executive produced by hip-hop legend Too $hort, Freaky Tales embraces the essence of a ‘mixtape movie.’ It weaves together multiple narratives in a fever dream of confrontations and chaos.
The film’s plot revolves around an eclectic mix of characters, a corrupt cop, an NBA star, a fierce female rap duo, teenage punks, ruthless neo-Nazis, and a relentless debt collector, all on a collision course. As their stories intertwine, Freaky Tales delivers over-the-top showdowns, explosive action, dark comedy, and unexpected twists, all set against the gritty backdrop of late-‘80s Oakland.
Fleck and Boden are known for their ability to blend intimate storytelling with larger-than-life spectacle. They take inspiration from hip-hop’s storytelling culture. Their film plays like a curated playlist of mayhem and madness. The movie also marks one of the final performances of Euphoria star Angus Cloud.
With its mix of nostalgia, adrenaline-pumping sequences, and a soundtrack that reflects the era’s rebellious spirit, Freaky Tales promises to be a unique cinematic experience. Fans of pulpy action films, rap culture, and ensemble-driven storytelling will not want to miss this ride. It crashes into theaters on April 4.
