Freddie Prinze Jr. and new cast members to Star in ‘I Know What You Did Last Summer’ sequel.

Freddie Prinze Jr. is set to reprise his iconic role as Ray Bronson in the upcoming I Know What You Did Last Summer sequel, according to Deadline. The film is scheduled to hit theaters on July 18, 2025. The original I Know What You Did Last Summer (1997) was based on Lois Duncan’s 1973 novel of the same name. Jim Gillespie directed the film, and it became a defining slasher hit of the ’90s. It follows a group of teenagers who accidentally kill a man and are then stalked by a mysterious figure a year later. Prinze Jr.’s character, Ray, is one of the central figures in the group, struggling with the guilt of their deadly secret.
The sequel, I Still Know What You Did Last Summer (1998), continued the story with Ray and Jennifer Love Hewitt’s character, Julie. The vengeful killer once again targets them. While the second installment did not achieve the same level of critical success as its predecessor, it cemented the franchise’s place in slasher history.
Sony’s latest sequel aims to reinvigorate the franchise.
It will blend original cast members with fresh faces. Joining Prinze Jr. are rising stars Chase Sui Wonders (Bodies Bodies Bodies), Madelyn Cline (Outer Banks), Sarah Pidgeon (The Wilds), Tyriq Withers (Atlanta), and Jonah Hauer-King (The Little Mermaid). This combination of established talent and newcomers is expected to bring new energy to the beloved horror series.
Directed by Jennifer Kaytin Robinson (Do Revenge), the upcoming film is anticipated to explore modern themes while remaining true to the suspenseful and thrilling nature of the original films. Fans can expect a blend of nostalgia and fresh scares as the mystery surrounding the infamous group unfolds once again. With Prinze Jr. back in the fold, excitement is already building for the return of the franchise, which helped define a generation of horror cinema.
