Tim Robinson and Paul Rudd’s Bromance Goes Off the Rails in “Friendship” Trailer

Friendship has Tim Robinson bringing his signature cringe to the big screen.

Writer-director Andrew DeYoung teams up with comedian Tim Robinson for Friendship, a darkly hilarious take on male bonding that spirals into absurdity. Robinson is known for his distinct brand of uncomfortable comedy. He takes audiences on a laugh-until-you-cry journey. This journey delves into a nightmare-fueled exploration of social awkwardness and misguided loyalty.

A film from A24.

The film stars Robinson alongside Kate Mara, Jack Dylan Grazer, and Paul Rudd. They bring an ensemble of talent to a story that mixes humor, tension, and outright chaos. Friendship is Robinson’s first major leading role in a feature film. This film will elevate the offbeat, cringe-worthy energy he’s perfected on television to new heights.

DeYoung is best known for his collaborations with Robinson on projects like I Think You Should Leave. He crafts a narrative that delves into the emotional complexities of male relationships. The story follows a well-intentioned but socially inept man (Robinson) whose desperate attempts to reconnect with an old friend (Rudd) set off a chain of disastrous events. As their interactions grow increasingly uncomfortable, the film captures the hilarity of forced friendships. It also portrays the horror of misplaced nostalgia and unrelenting awkwardness.

Robinson, a former Saturday Night Live writer, rose to fame with his Netflix sketch series I Think You Should Leave with Tim Robinson, which has garnered a cult following. His filmography also includes appearances in Detroiters, Documentary Now!, and Chip ‘n Dale: Rescue Rangers.

Paul Rudd, an A-list comedic actor, is widely known for his role as Scott Lang in the Ant-Man franchise and his work in Anchorman, Role Models, and Clueless. Rudd’s ability to balance charm with absurdity makes him a perfect foil to Robinson’s unhinged energy in Friendship.

With its U.S. premiere set for March 9 and a theatrical release in May, Friendship promises to deliver an outrageous yet relatable take on the fragile dynamics of adult friendships.
