Netflix Crossover Becomes Real as Gabriel Basso Recruits Noah Centineo for Iconoclast

Noah Centineo joins Gabriel Basso’s directorial debut after The Recruit cancellation.

Netflix’s decision to cancel The Recruit after two seasons disappointed many viewers, especially as The Night Agent moved forward with a third season. Yet the star of the discontinued series has moved into an unexpected collaboration that developed naturally earlier this year. The shift offers fans something new, despite the show’s end.

A Press Tour Pairing That Sparked Momentum

In January 2025, Netflix paired Gabriel Basso of The Night Agent with Noah Centineo of The Recruit for a joint press tour. The actors appeared together in TV interviews, created social content for Netflix, and participated in coordinated photo calls. The pairing highlighted both series and put the two leads in front of audiences simultaneously.

Basso and Centineo developed an easy rapport during their appearances, trading jokes and leaning into friendly banter. They passed the “internet’s boyfriend” label back and forth and compared favorite on-set snacks, which added to their dynamic. At one point, Basso told Centineo, “I feel disarmed by your charisma,” a moment that circulated widely on social media.

A Joke That Evolved Into a Creative Partnership

While they joked about a crossover between their series, Basso pursued a more ambitious project on his own. He is making his writing and directorial debut with Iconoclast, a psychological thriller about a reclusive young man whose obsession with a live-streaming influencer slowly destabilizes his reality. The film marks a major milestone for Basso as he moves behind the camera.

When Basso cast Centineo in the film, he also brought him on as a producer, strengthening the partnership that began during their press tour. The project features Rain Spencer of The Summer I Turned Pretty and Yellowjackets actress Courtney Easton. Although Centineo steps away from his former spy role, he enters a new creative space shaped by his earlier collaboration with Basso.

As their collaboration shifts from interviews to a full-feature film, Iconoclast offers both actors a fresh path forward, and we are looking forward to seeing how their chemistry translates to the screen.

Centineo will star next in 2026’s Street Fighter Movie.
