Godzilla Minus One Releasing Special Black And White Version

Godzilla Minus One strikes back in monochromatic majesty.

Toho International plans to release a newly remastered black-and-white version of the movie “Godzilla Minus One” for a one-week-only cinematic experience. This special treat is a gesture of gratitude towards the fans who contributed to the film’s colossal success at the domestic box office, earning a staggering $50 million. The re-release, titled “Godzilla Minus One/Minus Color,” is expected to create a buzz among the dedicated fan base. Watch the trailer below!

It was initially released in Japan on January 12.

American audiences can now witness it starting from January 26. This limited-time opportunity gives fans a unique chance to see Godzilla in a new light, that is, without color. Tickets for the exclusive screening are already on sale, and audiences can experience a week of awe-inspiring spectacle.

However, the excitement comes with a time limit. All “Godzilla Minus One” versions will bid farewell to theaters after February 1, 2024. Fans have approximately two weeks to relish this monstrous masterpiece on the big screen. Director, writer, and VFX supervisor Takashi Yamazaki expressed his excitement at the film’s reception in North America. He was grateful for the positive feedback and stated, “GODZILLA MINUS ONE /MINUS COLOR will bring a new and visceral experience to audiences, and I hope they will tremble with a new kind of terror!”

The black-and-white version is more than just a simple conversion.

Yamazaki emphasized the meticulous and complex color-grading process undertaken by the colorist. The absence of color renders Godzilla with a realistic and documentary-like quality, intensifying the fear factor. Yamazaki urged existing fans and newcomers to witness this new dimension, particularly highlighting a spine-chilling scene at the beginning where Godzilla emerges at night. “Godzilla Minus One” has achieved a monumental milestone by surpassing $50 million at the US box office. This feat establishes it as the highest-grossing Japanese Live Action or Japanese Animated film ever released in the United States. Moreover, it currently holds the impressive rank of the #5 Highest Grossing Non-English Language film in the history of the US box office.

As fans gear up for this exclusive cinematic event, “Godzilla Minus One/Minus Color” promises to deliver an unparalleled experience, ensuring its colossal footprint remains etched in the annals of cinematic history.
