The Golden Globes should have included Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem.

The 2024 Golden Globes event has generated quite a buzz among fans and critics. The Best Motion Picture – Animated nomination list has surprised many since “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem” did not make the cut. This is unexpected since Mutant Mayhem’s unique qualities set it apart from other notable animated movies in the same year. The movie’s omission from the nomination list is a significant oversight that fails to recognize its merits.
Although the nominees are impressive, they do not acknowledge the incredible awesomeness and creativity of Mutant Mayhem.
“The Boy and The Heron,” while showcasing Miyazaki’s unmistakable ability to create fantastical worlds, does not meet the high expectations set by his previous works. The traditional animation style and unexpected narrative detours may leave some viewers longing for the boldness and emotional resonance that define Miyazaki’s most memorable films. Pixar’s “Elemental” effectively portrays the immigrant experience with a personal touch, while Mutant Mayhem explores the Turtles’ personalities, creating a deeper connection for all ages.
“Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse” is an undoubtedly ambitious film that will likely receive acclaim. However, Mutant Mayhem’s visually impressive animation and perfect “imperfect” art style make it stand out. Mutant Mayhem offers something fresh and different to the audience and challenges the norms of animated filmmaking. “The Super Mario Bros. Movie” is a fun movie that fans of all generations can enjoy. However, Mutant Mayhem’s excellent score and captivating storytelling make it a serious contender that deserves recognition. The soundtrack enhances the exciting action scenes and the heartfelt moments, creating an enjoyable and entertaining viewing experience.
“Wish” is a musical comedy that Disney produced with great ambition but fell short of greatness. It leaves an opening for Mutant Mayhem to fill with its unique approach and dedication to the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles’ legacy. The argument that “Suzume” is technically a 2022 release is valid, and such films should indeed be placed in an international animated category. Similarly, “The Boy and The Heron,” with its subbed and dubbed versions, highlights the need for more nuanced evaluation criteria in awards shows.
Mutant Mayhem stands out with its unmatched visual brilliance, attributed to a distinctive art style that sets it apart from its rivals.
Though “Spider-Verse” is widely regarded as the most ambitious superhero movie, Mutant Mayhem offers a fresh and distinctive take on the beloved Turtles, showcasing their vulnerabilities and adding new dimensions to their iconic personalities. The voice actors, which include Brady Noon, Nicolas Cantu, Shamon Brown Jr., and Micah Abbey, deliver exceptional performances that bring the characters to life. Director Jeff Rowe’s technique of having the children record their voice sections enhances the ensemble’s chemistry, taking the film to the next level.
“Mutant Mayhem” is an exhilarating addition to the TMNT universe that fans of all ages will surely enjoy. The movie takes animated storytelling to new heights while paying tribute to the Turtles’ legacy. Sadly, the Golden Globes didn’t acknowledge “Mutant Mayhem” and missed a chance to celebrate its achievement. The movie deserved a nomination and a chance to win the Best Motion Picture – Animated award. I listed Mutant Mayhem as one of my top animated choices in my nomination ballot for the Critics Choice Awards. I sincerely hope this film gets the recognition it deserves.
