Grand Theft Auto VI’s latest trailer teases chaos, conspiracy, and Vice City vibes.

Rockstar Games has officially pushed the release date of Grand Theft Auto VI to May 26, 2026, disappointing fans who expected to play the long-awaited sequel this year. However, the studio tried to ease the sting by dropping a second-tuesday trailer showcasing a deeper dive into the game’s story, setting, and criminal duo—Jason and Lucia.
Captured entirely on PlayStation 5, the new trailer confirms what many speculated: GTA VI is going full throttle back to Vice City, or at least a modern, neon-drenched version of it. But the story goes far beyond Miami vibes, pulling players into the fictional state of Leonida in a tale of love, loyalty, and lawlessness.
The synopsis reveals that Jason and Lucia are caught in a criminal conspiracy that spans the state, forcing them to rely on each other for survival after a job goes bad. The trailer hints at Bonnie-and-Clyde-style dynamics with high-speed chases, gunfights, and social media satire — all signature Rockstar ingredients.
Meet the Characters
Jason Duval is a grifter turned soldier turned drug runner. After a failed attempt to go straight in the Army, he winds up back in the underworld, operating in the Keys. Jason wants a simpler life, but trouble keeps finding him.

Lucia Caminos has been fighting her entire life — literally. Raised by a father who taught her how to brawl before she could read, Lucia’s hardened by a stint in Leonida Penitentiary. She’s out now; this time, it’s all about making smart moves.
Rockstar’s Statement
In an official note to fans, Rockstar acknowledged the delay, stating:
“We are very sorry that this is later than you expected… The interest and excitement surrounding a new Grand Theft Auto has been truly humbling. We want to thank you for your support and your patience… We hope you understand that we need this extra time to deliver at the level of quality you expect and deserve.”

Despite the extended wait, many fans are still buzzing about the expanded world, vibrant visuals, and complex characters teased in the latest footage. Still, some longtime players remain skeptical, especially those nostalgic for the franchise’s earlier eras.
As someone who first joined the GTA bandwagon during the PS2 era with GTA III and Vice City, the flash of the 1980s soundtrack hooked me. San Andreas was a blast, but GTA V never quite clicked with me, and so far, VI looks cool but hasn’t fully pulled me back in.
With the release still over a year away, Rockstar has time to win over skeptics — or risk losing them entirely.
